Description: When dragging-dropping media, like an mp3-audio or a video onto a slide, it is *always* linked and never embedded into the presentation, regardless of whether shift or ctrl (or both) is held down (see also https://help.libreoffice.org/6.1/en-US/text/shared/guide/dragdrop.html ). However, even if explicitly inserted as link, it does not show up in Edit->Links to external file. One way to see that it's not working is to save the presentation and look at the file-size afterwards. When moving the presentation to another computer or reanming/deleting the referenced file, the media is thus not available. If the media is inserted via Insert->Audio or Video it is correctly embedded. Side note: if inserted via Insert->Audio or Video with the "Insert as Link"-option checked, it does also *not* appear in Edit->Links to external file. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Drag-Drop a media file from a file-manager onto a slide (holding ctrl-button so the + appears) 2. Save the odp -> note already that the file size stays (too) small 2. Close libreoffice (so the media-file is for sure *not kept open*) 3. Rename the previously inserted media-file 4. Reopen the presentation - the media cannot be played (but there is also no useful message that the file cannot be found...) Actual Results: No media is playing Expected Results: If dragged-dropped with the +-sympol the media file should be embedded. Media files should also appear in Edit->Links to external files Not found linked media should provide an error message that file x at place y cannot be found. When an image is added via Insert/Image with the "Insert as Link"-option checked it is asked wheter it shall be embedded. Such a question should also be asked when using Insert->Audio or Video. I confirm this, but it seems more of a UX thing, like how to better express the default or match user expectations. Let's add UX team.
According to this page [1] it should be possible to insert audio or video files not only as link. Tried with mp3 and wav but no success (not sure it ever worked). Given that not even Insert > Audio/Video works as expected I would start there digging into the issue. Eventually, I share the expectation of using a modifier key. OTOH, would it be possible to attach the media you are trying to embed ?

Yes, the bug is still present in Libreoffice 7.4.2. Confirmed on Debian Bullseye, if that matters.
