Description Uwe 2020-06-27 13:21:30 UTC
Description:
I have a file in calc with >10 tables with charts in it.
When I open it and add data the charts are updated as well. I leave the file open and send the laptop in standby. I wake it up later and add data to the chart, the chart is not updated. I click in the chart and activate it, the chart is updated. I click in a cell, the chart gets deselected and the curves go back to the graphics before (as if I undid the adding of the data).
I save the file, close calc, reopen it again and the updated chart is shown.

Steps to Reproduce:
Open the file
send Computer to standby
wake up
enter new data in row below
activate the chart to see the curve showing the new data

Actual Results:
New data is not shown as soon as you activate the chart or save and reopen the file

Expected Results:
New Data is shown as soon as the data is entered

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Can't reproduce it with a fresh file.
The file in the attachment is 4 month old, often changed, the charts are changed multiple times, the chart area was increased several times aso.

Not reproduced here, NixOS and LibO 7.0.0. Slimbook laptop.

For the testing, I cut and pasted the contents of cell D71, because it showed a visible change. There was no need to "activate the chart" because the changes were immediate.

Which Linux distro and which laptop are you using?

Hi Uwe,
Can you please recheck this issue with a build including https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=eec03e848cb6874ce6d64dc0b8f45dbaf52e6c2b ?

Sorry, this slipped my attention.

I run a Kubuntu 20.04 on a T460 Thinkpad.

Do I have to use a nightly build for that to be included?

After some trouble with my machine I'm on 7.1.1.2 now but I do not leave calc open over standby.

I will change that and report back on you

I can confirm that 7.1.1.2 has the bug as mentioned above. Exactly the same behaviour.

Chart failure to update when source data is changed has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I'm not sure if it preceded LibreOffice fork. Issue exists on Windows. Don't recall if also existed on Ubuntu Linux.

It does not matter if there is only one sheet and one chart or multiple sheets with multiple charts or charts on the same sheet or on separate sheets.

What I have found is that selecting the sheet for edit shows the updated data, but cancelling the edit reverts back to the old image.

If the chart image is selected and moved with an arrow key, the image updates and remains if the chart position is restored with the inverse key. [Can't recall if mouse move & restore works as well.]

In one folder, I have 205 .ODS files with charts and all exhibit the behavior. Some are more than a decade old and some a week. Some are a few KB and some are multi MB.

I have not found the problem Standby related as I have Workbooks loaded daily by scripts and the desktop machine is ON.

My guess is the chart is updated, but the image rendered doesn't get the message.

Additional chart non-updates are adding an Axis, moving/formatting a title, etc.

The image is not updated until it is shifted.

Thanks for reporting this issue.
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

Installed 7.3.2.2 on my 22.04 Kubuntu yesterday.
Changed some figures
Send the unit to standby
Changed some figures today.
Unusually quick response :-)
Seems fixed to me.

Appears to function.

Several charts update when underlying tables are updated.

Many Thanks!
