Description Eric 2020-07-29 18:26:02 UTC
Description:
KDE Plasma 5.18.5 libreoffice version 6.4.4.2 40(Build:2)
AND also from downloaded tar file from LO website
Version: 6.4.5.2
Build ID: a726b36747cf2001e06b58ad5db1aa3a9a1872d6
CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: x11;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: CL

The font used for the menus, row numbering, bottom toolbar(or whatever its called) and all dialogs are very small and appear to be about 6pt to 8pt. Actual sheet data is also small but you can tweak that to be larger. All other applications fonts look normal. This same version of libreoffice looks fine on Leap 15.1 and the libreoffice version 7.0.0.0.beta2 00(Build:0) on Tumbleweed also looks normal. I compared settings in System Settings for Global Theme, Plasma Style, Application Style and Fonts to ensure they all were set the same (between Leap 15.2 and the other OS versions). The libreoffice settings are also set the same for each OS.
Perhaps there is a setting somewhere i have missed but its well buried if so.
I will attach a screenshot so you can see the big difference in libreoffice-calc vs konsole and System-Settings.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start libreoffice calc
2. observe font
3.

Actual Results:
font is so tiny its very hard to read

Expected Results:
normal font size like the rest of the desktop

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I can not find any way to adjust the font in LO

screnshot showing issue

This screenshot shows the LO text vs other normal text. Its the LO menu's and dialogs etc that are so bad here. Its very difficult to read when its so small. The screenshot makes it look a bit larger than it actually is.

I think this happens once KDE has been tweaked using the System Settings app. Try setting the different Workplace themes and Application Styles and see if it causes the Menu Font to go tiny. Once it does you cant get it back. I dont know which specific setting triggers it because you need to log out and log back in for the issue to appear.

We can see from your screenshot and your version info (VCL: x11) that you are using the fallback VCL backend. Does it still launch with this backend, if you use version 7.1? A quick way to test is an appimage https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/
Comment 7 Eric 2021-04-11 15:59:37 UTC
Version: 7.0.3.1
Build ID: 00(Build:1)
CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 5.8; UI render: default; VCL: kf5
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
KDE 5.78.0 Plasma 5.20.5
Qt: 5.15.2

With this version everything looks normal

I had to reformat my HDD and so far everything is ok.
I am closing this, and will reopen if things change
