Description pgl 2020-08-01 08:33:36 UTC
Description:
When LibreOffice saves documents, it changes their file permissions. This behaviour:

a) messes with the workflow in my household, where we share one big disk, have unix users for each member, and a 'family' unix group, which allows us to e.g. edit all sorts of files owned by other members in the 'family' group

b) goes against what I perceive as standard practice (that personal files' ownership and permissions should only be changed when the users request such a change), though I'm not sure if there's any standardization document that supports this claim

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create any document with default unix permissions of anyuser:anyuser
2. Change the group of the document, e.g with `chown anyuser:anygroup document`
3. Save the document (tested it with both Writer and Calc)

Actual Results:
Ownership is now `anyuser:anyuser`

Expected Results:
Ownership should still be `anyuser:anygroup`

Reproducible: Always

Isn't a special problem of Base, the database. So I switched component to LibreOffice
Comment 2 Aron Budea 2020-08-20 23:07:50 UTC
This could come from the commit mentioned in bug 125515, I can't check now, but if anyone confirms this, check with version 6.0 or earlier as well.

I tested this with LO 7.1.0.0.alpha0+ (4a899a5f8a72ea29a6919316afe3627de9f33e95) & 6.4.6.2 / Ubuntu, but can't reproduce. Saving a file again keeps its group as previously set.

Thank you for reporting the bug.
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
