Description 伟思礼 2020-08-04 14:55:52 UTC
Description:
Tried to paste multiple lines of UTF-8 into Calc. The Character set was changed to UTF-8. One of the lines contains the word Syrië but the Fields sub-panel showed the ë as an unknown character. It was correctly rendered in the spreadsheet after the paste.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select multiple lines of UTF-8 in another app that contains character ë
2. copy to clipboard
3. Select a Calc cell and try to paste

Actual Results:
Fields panel shows unknown character glyph instead of ë

Expected Results:
Characters should be rendered correctly

Reproducible: Always

What is the Character set dropdown set to in the dialog by default?
Comment 2 伟思礼 2020-08-08 13:47:40 UTC
It _always_ opens with UTF-16.

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135441
is about a different problem but contains an image showing this issue.

I'll edit this for better description

Well, since it won't let me edit, …

When I select paste, the characters are rendered correctly in the dialogue.

They are rendered incorrectly as soon as I change the setting to UTF-8.

The file copied from _is_ UTF-8, and if I paste the same clipboard into an empty file, the 'file' command tells me it's a UTF-8 file. My editor's defaults are UTF-8 and my locale is UTF-8. I should be able to tell LibreOffice to do everything in UTF-8 and not have to re-select every time.

UTF-16 wastes space unless I am doing Chinese (which I haven't done for a year).
