Description sawakaze 2020-09-24 09:43:21 UTC
Description:
On draw, I set Page Margins to "Normal(3.18 cm)" on sidebar, Margins on Page Setup/Page tab (menu -> page -> Properties...) was 1.59 cm.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open draw
2. Open sidebar and properties
3. change Margin to "Normal(3.18 cm)"
4. open menu -> Page -> Properties...
5. open Page Tab and confirm Margins setting

Actual Results:
Left Margins was 1.59 cm
Right Margins was 1.59 cm

Expected Results:
Left Margins is 3.18 cm
Right Margins is 3.18 cm

On Writer, after similar operation, setting change to 3.18 cm.
I seem no gap between application.

Probably an implementation error.. but well this was OK in 5.2 with the old UI

This IS changing settings. It is setting the total Left/Right margin to 3.18, so each side gets half of that.

But you are correct that this is inconsistent with Writer, and I would agree that it is inconsistent with user expectations.

I'm not sure why this is marked as a regression. I didn't see ANY sidebar implementation of the margin prior to LO 6.0. For a short time in 6.0 dev, there were individual entries for Top/Bottom/Left/Right, but they were soon replaced by this dropdown listbox by authors pv2k and Katarina Behrens on 2017-09-30 08:32:21
commit d5a64f114c101339ed479ea926653c703951fae5
tdf#109100 margin spinboxes in draw's sidebar changed to listbox

There is a HUGE discussion about the sizes in the listbox (although only a non-understood reference was made to Writer being 2x what Draw does). The point there is that Writer and Draw have very different ideals for margins, so they should not be equated or normalized.

In the end, everything here is contained in bug 135572, so I'm flagging this as a duplicate.
