Description Simon Noble 2020-09-24 13:58:42 UTC
Description:
I am using Windows 10 Pro build 19041.450 on three computers: a slow Dell GX620 Pentium4 single core 32-bit and a pair of 64-bit Dual Core Dells: a 755 and a quicker 760.

On upgrading from LibreOffice version 6.4.3.2 to LibreOffice 7.0.0.3 and recently to version 7.0.1.2 I found that navigating my spreadsheets with the left and right keyboard arrows had lost the smoothness and predictability. It is a poorer user experience with the highlighted cells at first hesitant to respond and then leaping away across the screen. This affects the single core Dell GX620 which is a deadly slow PC as well as the Dell 755 which is a quicker Dual Core PC. The handling issue isn't present on the Dell 760 which is a faster PC and it isn't affecting all spreadsheets, seemingly to cause issues with those containing lots of entries.

I have reverted to the LibreOffice version 6.4.3.2 which is a lovely handling version because following the progress of the highlighted cell across the screen is controllable with that older LibreOffice version...

This looks like a programming change at the upgrade to version 7.0 that is fighting hardware (CPU) I am guessing that it may be to do with rendering.

Other than that it's OK. I have called it a Normal and not a Minor issue because it affects user expectations of quality.

Good luck!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use a PC that is estimated to be a bit dated: NOT a Quad Core then.
2. Select a big spreadsheet.
3. Navigate a row with keyboard L and R arrows. Compare with a faster PC.

Actual Results:
With LO 7.0.0.3 and recently LO 7.0.1.2, it has become difficult to follow the highlighted cells across the screen to an intended spreadsheet column. There is an initial hesitation and then a rush of speed and a need to let go of the key or mouse. There is lack of control-ability: it isn't predictable or progressive any more.
The behaviour is present on more than one machine and isn't a user profile issue.

Expected Results:
With LibreOffice 6.4.3.2 (my earlier version) it is easy to speed the highlighted cell across the screen and predictably drop the highlighted cell at the column intended.

Reproducible: Always

I updated out of the software into version 7.1

The version 7.0.0.3 is no longer available for investigation on my system.

Thank you for handling the software trait.
Simon

Ok, it's not clear from your comment, but I assume you don't see the problem anymore, so I will close.
