Test document opening at 120% instead of 100% default zoom

Hi

although user specific document settings are disabled, the attached document is opened at 120% zoom (it shows 100% for a split second and then jumps to 120% during opening).

Seems to be realted, because the document uses an own document template (Normal...). Somehow the default zoom is only applied in the standard template (Standard).

There are many forum posts and google results with people that want their documents to open at a set zoom level. Suggestion is always to overwrite the default Standard template and save it with the desired zoom level.

Guess it would be a lot easier if LibreOffice would offer a simple setting for default zoom to avoid these issues at the beginning.

(Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting = deactivated)

I'm not sure, if I understand the problem. If I disable Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting, the document is always opened with the currently used Zoom-level or with the last used zoom-level, if writer is not open. For me this is what I expect. In fact I don't think, if there is a default zoom level. Where can I find it? I would expect such a seeting in View => Zoom => Zoom. Could you please specify your problem and provide some steps to reproduce? Thank you.

This might be a windows 10 version issue. Otherwise, I cannot explain why you dont't see the same behavior.

>If I disable Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting, the document is always opened with the currently used Zoom-level or with the last used zoom-level, if writer is not open

Not for me:
1. Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting = disabled
2. Opened another writer document (it's opened with 100% zoom & 2 pages are displayed next to each other, as it should be and as my standard template view is saved), closed writer --> this works and is valid for all my writer documents
3. Just not for one: if I then download the attached usecase document and open it via doubleclick, it's opened with 120% zoom and only one page is displayed on my screen

The only difference of the used documents within File > Properties
- attached use case document shows Template: "Normal[ ]"
- all other documents show Template: " "

BTW: I don't need to close writer. Use case document always opens with 120% zoom for me while all my other documents open with 100% zoom in parallel as it should be.

With "standard view" I meant that I saved the default page style template while viewing a document with 100% and 2 pages next to each other.

I also use Windows 10

Just for clarification: You use a standard template with 100% zoom and two pages displayed next to each other (book view I assume). And you expect hta tevery document created with this standard template behaves this way, correct?

Attached document has doc-format. So I assume youcrreated it with your default template "Normal" and saved it as doc-file, correct? Does ist happen with every file you save as doc or only with this specific one?

>And you expect hta tevery document created with this standard template behaves this way, correct?

Yes, that's what the forum posts and google search results suggest to do when you want a "Default Zoom". However, I just realized that this doesn't help. My LibreOffice simply uses the zoom that was used the last time before close.

>Does ist happen with every file you save as doc or only with this specific one?

It happens with every document that was saved with another zoom factor. If the document is saved with 140% zoom, LibreOffice opens it with 140% zoom again.

My additional test:
1. Save a ODT document with 140% zoom
2. Close LibreOffice
3. Open LibreOffice (it opens with 140% zoom)
4. Change zoom to 100%, close & reopen it (it opens with 100% zoom)
5. Close LibreOffice
6. Open the document from 1. (it opens with 140%)

So it seems that the setting "(Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting with the document = deactivated)" is not working for me.

I also tested it with portable (https://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/portable/7.0.1/LibreOfficePortable_7.0.1_MultilingualStandard.paf.exe):
1. Download & extract
2. Open Writer and deactivate Options --> Load/Save --> General --> Load user-specific setting with the document = deactivated
3. Reopen Writer and open the attached usecase document

--> it opens with 120% zoom instead of 100%.
Comment 5 sebick 2020-12-11 22:39:41 UTC
Update: seems it's not even necesseray to disable user specific settings (previous step 2 is unnecessary). LibreOffice Portable always opens the usecase document with 120% and it seems that I have no way to enforce my desired zoom level and page layout :(
Comment 6 Dieter 2021-01-06 14:06:05 UTC
I tried again with following steps

1. Open writer
2. File => Templates => Manage Templates
3. Select Default Template => Context Menu => Edit
4. Change zoom to 120% => Save and close
5. Change zoom to 100%
6. File => New

Result:
New document is opened, based on default template and with zoom of 120%
=> Works as expected

7. Close Writer and reopen

Result:
New document is opened, based on default template and with zoom of 120%
=> Works as expected

Tested with

Version: 7.0.4.2 (x64)
Build ID: dcf040e67528d9187c66b2379df5ea4407429775
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB
Calc: CL

Thanks for the trying, but this only works for new documents. If you do you're exact use case and open the attached test document, it'll open with a non-default zoom:

1. Open writer
2. File => Templates => Manage Templates
3. Select Default Template => Context Menu => Edit
4. Change zoom to 100% => Save and close
5. Open "https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=165897"

=> Bug: document is opened with 120% zoom, instead of the default zoom of 100% (defined in step 4)
Comment 8 Dieter 2021-01-07 07:05:26 UTC
Thanks for clarification. Test document is based on template "Normal". So I assume, that this is your default template, correct. Snce I don't have this template, I can't test with your document. Your test file has .doc file format. Does the problem also exist with odt-files and docx-files?

>So I assume, that this is your default template, correct.

NO, I also don't have it, neither does LibreOffice Portable. So again for the 6th time:

1. Open writer (LibreOffice Portable, English)
2. File => Templates => Manage Templates

>Your test file has .doc file format. Does the problem also exist with odt-files and docx-files?

Again, https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137079#c4

Sry, I'm feeling a bit lost here and surely cannot provide any other info. If you cannot reproduce it / or want to, simply close this directly (since we're running in circles now).
Comment 10 Dieter 2021-01-07 11:39:38 UTC
Your attachment ist based on a template that is called "normal" (see File => Properties => General). Setting a default template means, that a new document has styles from that template. So if you don't have the template "normal" your tests are invalid. Please read LO Help or manual about how template works.

=> RELSOVED INSUFFICIENTDATA

I spent a lot of time to help you with your problem (and I'm not paid for this). Please consider this.
Comment 11 sebick 2021-01-07 23:22:27 UTC
At least we all know now that there's no way to make LibreOffice open the attached standard MS Office document with 100% zoom. The current limited implementations work as intentended.

=> RELSOVED WONTFIX

Please also note that I spent alot of time here to make this reproducable for you (which took less than 5min for my friends who complained about it anyway).
