Description: Make chapter numbering dialog accessible from they PS dialog Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Writer 2. Double click heading 1 3. Type something 4. Right click Modify for Heading 1 style & look for (chapter) numbering (not present) 5. Cancel 6. Right click Modify for Heading (parent). There is outline and numbering (but used for something else) 7. Right click Heading and select new 8. Outline and numbering tab 9. Set level 2 10. Set numbering style Actual Results: Numbering can't be found in they PS dialog. It actually can, but probably not the right way to do? Expected Results: Expected is quite an overstatement. However there is a usability issue. I had a really hard time to find the proper dialog. Yes, it's pretty straight forward if you now where to look.. However, I still see 'Heading number' being related/connected to Heading Level etc. So maybe simply a button on they Outline & Numbering tab of Heading PS. Not sure if this can be limited to they template headings (hope so). This makes it easier to find the proper dialog; IMHO See Word does it the same way (as least 2003). Other solutions are welcome :-). Except 'read the help/manual'. Or being at a logical place Also take in consideration they no Tabbed bar (without sidebar) Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.1.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) Build ID: dec9a123867dcd0fea4683beeb3b4b6659f926f3 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 6.3 Build 9600; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: nl-NL (nl_NL); UI: en-US Calc: CL
There is no such thing as "numbering PS". The numbering is rather an attribute of the PS, linked to a list style. The H1..H9 PS are linked to a special list style, the chapter numbering, probably to not mix up these numbers with list within the document. You can change this per Tools > Chapter Numbering. See also Attempt to phrase it differently I'm aware of Tools > Chapter Numbering. The 'usability' issue is finding the dialog in question. In a reflex a started looking at PS style settings (as Heading is a PS). And I couldn't find heading numbering (Word has it accessible). From technical perspective the PS & heading numbering might be 'total different' thing. However from 'perspective' where could the setting be.. I would 'assume' PS style.. Not some different dialog to be accessed from Tools menu Also how I'm I supposed to find that setting in Tabbed mode? Else you start fiddling around.. Pressing numbering list for Heading style (as DF). Or might attempt numbering style (7-10). Yes, I tried both before 'finding' the dialog. And I don't intend to embed the setting inside PS. Make accessible from PS dialog (if it's possible the limit the scope of that button to template heading) or something like that.
Could imagine to insert Chapter Numbering in the respective field, disabled so users cannot change the type to Numbering Foo, but Edit leads to the (chapter) numbering properties.
And it seems to be a duplicate of bug 129669. Not reading through all comments but bug 83071 is at least a "See Also" thing.
