Description oconcepcion 2020-10-14 22:42:21 UTC
Description:
Although the default language in LibreOffice's configuration is Spanish (and it appears this way in the status bar), the program does not check the spelling. However, when it comes to documents in English, the spell checker does work.
Automatic Spell Checking is selected in the "Tools" menu.
When I invoke Spell Checking by hitting F7 key the Spelling window shows Text language as "[None]" and dropdown menu offers English language versions only (See image).
I re-ran installation and confirmed that Spanish dictionary was originally selected to install. Ran "Repair" installation and the problem persists.

Yes, it’s installed.
I noticed the bug because I’ve been using LibreOffice in this PC for years as default office suite and never (that I remember, at least) spellchecking for Spanish failed.

Could you please try it in Safe Mode (Help => Restart in Safe Mode)?

After restarting in Safe Mode:
 - Default Language in Writer editor window and in Writer Settings is English
 - After writing some words in Spanish, selecting them and setting the language to Spanish, Spanish was available in Status Bar and the Spell Checker worked.

A note: Out of curiosity I started Calc (in Normal Mode)and Spell Checker detected Spanish and worked fine.

Latest news!
In Normal Mode now, I re-checked Writer settings and Default Language for Documents was not set to any (It has been set to Spanish for years). I re-set to Spanish. When opening a new document the language in Status Bar says "Multiple Languages", but after writing some words in Spanish I can choose Spanish in Status Bar and Spell Checker works.

If it works in Safe Mode there's a problem with your user profle. You need a reset of your user profile, see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile
