Steps to Reproduce: 1.open LibreOffice start center 2.create new document from the list Actual Results: entries for new documents are listed as module[space]document type with the related module symbol in front of each entry, which makes it hard to read Expected Results: entries for new documents should only involve module symbol and document-type Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.0.3.1 (x64) Build ID: d7547858d014d4cf69878db179d326fc3483e082 CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 6.3 Build 9600; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-GB (en_GB); UI: en-US Calc: CL
No the current mix of Icon - module - ODF document type was a UX design decision, for branding/marketing and accessibility [1] Unless/until the StartCenter is again redesigned, its layout is appropriate. =-ref-= [1] https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Whiteboards/Start_Center see the 'Sidebar Button Names' stanzas.
I understand it's serves LibO branding and user recognition. How about a dash and an additional space between module and document-type? Writer - Document Calc - Spreadsheet... For branding reason would I replace the current Impress icon with the default one as said "the labels are consistent with the OS start menu LibreOffice entries"
Again absent a complete redesign of the Startcenter this seems a bit of "bikeshedding" and uncessessary. And while I do like "hyphens" (em-dash) for visual separators, we don't use them anywhere else in the UI (e.g. main menu labels). But we'll throw it back for UX-advise. IMHO => WF
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #3) > "bikeshedding" and uncessessary I don't see icons as disadvantage for readability. Maybe a bloody beginner does not know that Writer is used to create documents but anyone else does. And no one reads the labels but picks the icon in a glance. => agree with WF
