Description Bob 2020-11-29 20:02:19 UTC
Description:
It's hard to show you the problem using the actual characters because of the fonts in use. The apostrophe and double apostrophe used in quotation marks was previously "smart" and used a curved symbol similar to a comma. Now they are just vertical slashes. The font is Liberation Serif, font size 12 point.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Writer
2.Set "Liberation Serif" as the font for default style
3. Use quotes ( " ) or apostrophes ( ' )

Actual Results:
The quotes and apostrophes are significantly different, they are not curved to indicate start or end of a quote, and this is actually a loss of functionality and quality from the previous release.

Expected Results:
A curved "smart" symbol as noted above.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I tried cloning styles from the portion of my document written in the old release, and applying the styles to the new text, and it did not apply the "smart" functionality and curved symbols. I'm not a smart computer guy, but I need this to go back the way it was in the previous release, but I like the new release and do not want to go to the older version to get my preferred functionality back. Please contact me via e-mail to ask questions or tell me what you think. Thank you!

Could you give a try at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Corrupted_user_profile and indicate if you still reproduce this?

Screen Shot

There are several user profile files (please see attached screen capture). Which one should I back up? Also, I am sorry, but I do not know how to back it up.

Screenshot isn't related to profile, if you read the link I provided, you got there:

Julien Nabet gave me the correct solution, which is to move the LO user profile to a new directory and establish a new user profile by running LO again. Julien was very patient with me, and he helped me correct the problem.Thank you!!

Let's rather put this one to WFM since there wasn't any patch to fix this.
Great to see someone so enthusiastic! :-) Thank you!
