Description: Writer does not support selecting several words in comments by double clicking a word and then moving the mouse to select other words. However, this behavior is supported by normal text in Writer. Comments in Writer should support word selection as well. Steps to Reproduce: Word selection in Writer: 1. Paste "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisici elit" in a Writer document. 2. Double click the word "ipsum" -> the word "ipsum" is selected 4. Move the cursor over "dolor" -> "ipsum dolor" is selected 5. Move the cursor over "sit" -> "ipsum dolor sit" is selected --> OK Word selection in Writer Comments: 1. Create comment in Writer 2. Paste "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisici elit" to this comment. 3. Double click the word "ipsum" -> the word "ipsum" is selected 4. Move the cursor over "dolor" -> "ipsum dolor" is not selected, only "ipsum" is selected 5. Move the cursor over "sit" -> "ipsum dolor sit" is not selected, only "ipsum" is selected Actual Results: Only one word is selected in comment Expected Results: Several words are selected in comment Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.0.3.1 Build ID: 00(Build:1) CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: GL; VCL: kf5 Locale: de-CH (en_US.UTF-8); UI: de-DE Calc: threaded
I can't confirm it with Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 1675a68526c43c6c6e4dc850ee911f0c1de75c88 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL "dolor" isn't selected, if I move cursor over it (step 4 of word selection in writer) Same behaviour in text area and commment - double-click selects ipsum - three clicks select whole paragraph - double click in one word and shift+arrow selects further text Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
(In reply to Dieter from comment #1) I could still reproduce the problem in Writer comments. > - double click in one word and shift+arrow selects further text All selection is only with the mouse. No keyboard keys or selections are involved in this issue. Clarified steps to reproduce: 1. Create comment in Writer 2. Paste "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisici elit" to this comment. 3. Double click the word "ipsum" and keep the mouse button pressed -> the word "ipsum" is selected 4. Move the mouse cursor over "dolor" while still keeping the mouse button pressed -> "ipsum dolor" is not selected, only "ipsum" is selected 5. Move the mouse cursor over "sit" while still keeping the mouse button pressed -> "ipsum dolor sit" is not selected, only "ipsum" is selected Actual Results: Only one word is selected in comment Expected Results: Several words are selected in comment These steps are working in normal Writer text, but not in Writer comments. I've repeated it with Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 4cc8406abaf8acd5dc2bdba8d46d6c3c44fbc985 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: x11 Locale: de-CH (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
Roland, thank you for a more detailed explanation. Now I can confirm it with Version: 7.2.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 1675a68526c43c6c6e4dc850ee911f0c1de75c88 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL Additional observation It's also not possible to drag and drop a selected word in the comment (might be related to the reported problem. Problem has been reported before in bug 95269, but bug 95269 has a much broader scope. So I don't mark this bug here a s a duplicate.
Retested in Version: 7.3.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 612d5b1a04fe022a34018d901bb9b052791d54e5 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: ro-RO (ro_RO.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded The same.
Also confirmed in: Version: 6.4.7.2 Build ID: 1:6.4.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.4 CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI-Language: en-US Calc: threaded Changing the earliest version affected accordingly, but wouldn't be surprised if this is inherited from OOo.
Dear Roland Kurmann, To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
