Description Lars 2021-01-25 13:43:51 UTC
Description:
I have created a few documents with LibreOffice Writer. When opening them today, I notice that the localised extra characters of my language (Norwegian) are changed to nonsensical characters. These are the æ, ø and å characters.

Even when typing them out, as normal, æ turns into è, ø to ú, and å to ç.
This also happens when creating a new, fresh document.

(Funnily enough, copying and pasting them turns them into the correct letters here!)

I have made no changes to LO lately except for changing the UI to English, but the Locale setting is still Norwegian – and I haven't run into this error before.

Restarting in safe mode actually seems to 'fix' this problem – the characters appear correctly. However, if starting it normally, the weird characters are back again.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to type characters æ, ø & å into a document
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Æ, ø and å turns into weird, other characters

Expected Results:
I expect to see the actual characters I put in

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

This only happens on one of my computers, as it turns out. The one where the bug appears is on a Microsoft Surface.

For some reason, today, whilst opening an edited document (consisting of some tables and non-tables), some of the cells in the table treat the characters as normal. Whereas in the main body and other cells, æ ø å turns into gibberish again.

Lars, please try this if Safe mode is resolving your problem.

Open LibreOffice, go to Help - Restart in Safe Mode and choose form here Factory Reset and check that 2 options from there. LibreOffice will be like a new installation. And on every opening everything will be ok.

Wainting for your settings, and results.

BogdanB, I just tried this, and it does not solve the issue. Neither from previous documents or new ones. I find that particularly weird as restarting in secure mode *does* solve the problem temporarily.

Lars: do you also see the problem with a master build Win-x86_64@tb77-TDF from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html
