Description Telesto 2021-02-06 19:16:41 UTC
The sidebar expands at maximum size under some circumstances

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Writer
2. Take the property deck and resize it down to minimum allowed size
3. Click the properties button (deck collapses)
4. Hoover over the border of the sidebar buttons; the <-> arrow appears
5. Drag to the left; sidebar expands at maximum size

Actual Results:
* <-> present expand sidebar to maximum size
* Hide button hiding the whole sidebar (closing it). Not hiding the deck only

Expected Results:
* I would have expected the 'Hide' button in the middle of the deck panel, hiding the deck. And after hiding changing arrow to right for expand
* The drag <-> being disabled
* Closing the sidebar in full can be done using the menu or hamburger menu close sidebar
* Additional button to collapse the full sidebar

Reproducible: Always

Still not really a clue how to distinct between 'hide' deck & hide full sidebar.
The collapse button surely kind of misleading. Especially in the context of collapsed deck.

And the <-> thing simply weird and expand to maximum awful. And no, it's not obvious for everybody that it's possible to click deck button twice to collapse..

The sidebar size is initially determined by the content. If many distinct controls are placed next to each other it becomes large. Other decks with just a list don't occupy much space and might be smaller. We had many discussions about this [1], there is a guideline at [2], and still some tickets to fine-tune the behavior. Please seek for duplicates on the details.
