Thanks, I suspected as much, and originally filed the bug as relevant only for Apple Arm processors, but the confirmation that it works on Intel is good to know.

Have installed on OpenSUSE 15.2

Created a new database with Collabora Office, opened the new database → all works well here. So couldn't confirm with Collabora Office and Linux. Could be a special MAC/ARM-bug

@Comment4: has been tested with Libre Office, not Collabora Office …

In comparison and contrast, LibreOffice from TDF does not suffer from this problem.

Ironically, neither does :

Collabora Office 21.06 is based on LibreOffice 7.1. Firebird database was marked as experimental feature in LibreOffice 7.1. Therefore you have to enable experimental features on Preferences - Colabora Office - Advanced tab. Then you have Firebird.

Seems a little bit confusing:
Alex wrote about any embedded database an MacOS.
Your answer is about Firebird, not about the default HSQLDB.
Why did you switch it as worksforme, while Alex still could confirm the bug with the same version. Did you really test it with Mac OS X 11.4?
Comment 12 Michael Meeks 2022-01-27 08:42:57 UTC
Hi Robert; HSQLDB requires Java which is extremely problematic and expensive to maintain. Firebird provides a solution that does not depend on Java, and as such is much more attractive. As & when we update to base from LibreOffice 7.3 which is due later this year we should have Firebird on by default - I imagine. HTH.
Comment 13 Alex Thurgood 2022-01-27 08:45:04 UTC
One can load an existing embedded Firebird ODB, but can not now create a new one without activating the experimental features ?

From a user perspective, this is not very logical given that Firebird is the only embedded database engine that Collabora supports.

Hi Michael,

I feel that Collabora really needs to communicate better on this wrt the end user.

With TDF LO, the user still has the choice of embedded HSQLDB if the experimental features are not activated.

With Collabora Productivity, making embedded Firebird an experimental feature again, when it wasn't in previous versions is confusing at best, especially given that the user can still load and work with existing embedded Firebird files in normal mode (i.e. without experimental features), just not create any new ones.

"Collabora Office is built for critical business needs and discerning users by Collabora"

Hmmm...
Comment 16 Michael Meeks 2022-01-27 15:02:49 UTC
I'm sure you're right - we can communicate better. However, since there is already a fix for this: us upgrading to Libreoffice 7.3 -and- this is coming in the next months, I would prefer to avoid burning engineering time for a temporary fix or user dialog explaining things here.
