See screenshots from Word and Libreoffice Writer, can I provide any more context? I can not seem to find a way to display special characters (tabs/spaces) to be sure that its spaces instead of tabs. Cheers, Olivier

Confirmed based on bug 139651 comment 6. The first version where the text is shown within the shapes was 4.0.0.3, and it was already wrongly spaced. From the comment: "In 6.1.0.3, the text boxes and separators have the correct size and position. Only the text spacing is wrong, because in the original document tabulation was used to position the pieces of text within the text box, and this isn't handled properly in Writer."
These are grouped shapes, adjusting meta. The tab characters seem to be not imported at all. It is possible to place one manually in these boxes to get the same layout, so this seems to be just an import problem.
Is there anything I can do to help resolving this issue?
It helps you to do more work in the main time if you focus on separating text in shapes. See the whole video at https://www.paperwritingpro.com/ that can help you to understand more.
