Description: The cols are currently fixed. So when imported data has very wide cols, a lot of sideways scrolling is needed to check if the preview looks correct. For these cases, it would be helpful to be able to resize cols the same way as calc itself allows: Mark the whole table area by clicking top-left, drag one col. to a desired width. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open csv 2. see appearing import dialogue 3. try resizing preview col width's Actual Results: not resizable Expected Results: resizable Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.1.1.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: fe0b08f4af1bacafe4c7ecc87ce55bb426164676 CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19041; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-CH (de_CH); UI: de-DE Calc: threaded
While this is not exact duplicate of 53026, I'll mark so assuming you need a solution. So let's see another - easier to resolve - bug, and if it's resolved and you still would prefer this solution, feel free to reopen. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 53026 ***
bug 53026 seems to be about the calc main window, where cols can be resized. This one here is about the import-dialogue, where right-clicking a header does not give resizing options, in contrary to the description in bug 53026. But yes, instead of add resizability, an easyer fix could be setting a max-width, as suggested in bug 53026. But on second thought, i guess many people would also be annoyed if the preview would cut long text without the option to see it all, since the whole point of this dialogue is to see if the chosen settings are correct for the given source data.
Enjoyed reading the article above, really explains everything in detail, the article is very interesting and effective. Thank you and good luck with the upcoming articles http://www.a2zfullformlist.com/ http://www.a2zfullformlist.com/ps-full-form/ Sinkoth :-)
Sounds to me like some effort for not much benefit. The column width seems to be defined by the word "Standard" (as column type); longer options such as "Date (DMY)" is cut off. And if we modify the preview it should rather size the columns automatically depending on the context with a maximum as today. By the way, the Data Provider has more capabilities although it doesn't resize the columns as well. Use Tools > Customize to add this function to menu or toolbar.
Topic was on the agenda for the design meeting but didn't receive further input. Little benefit (not much to scale) comes with huge effort (complete interaction needed) and I recommend to keep the current preview simple.
