Description cl 2021-04-06 07:59:46 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice crashes from time to time after altering a formula in calc with Fatal Error: "Text forwarder is invalid, model might be dead"

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open existing document
2. Alter formula in a cell (simple operations)
3. Press Enter

Actual Results:
LibreOffice Crashes with a Fatal Error - "Text forwarder is invalid, model might be dead"

Expected Results:
Obviously adapt the formula and not crash

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This started to happen about two months ago when I updated to version 6.4.7.2 I updated to 7.0.5.2 but the problem persists. It never happened before that and I've been using LibreOffice since years now.

If I restart LO I have to discard the recovery and reopen the last saved document and from then on it's a game of chance if it works or not.

I use MacOS 10.14.6.

Thank you for reporting the bug. To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test?

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present

Hi Xisco, Yes I tried in safe mode and could reproduce the fatal error.
I'm not sure, but I have the impression that if I open the document and immediately safe it before altering something, it won't crash. But I'm still testing that theory.

Please attach a sample document, as this makes it easier for us to verify the bug.
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the requested document is provided.

Created attachment 171001 [details]
calc spreadsheet

Removed sensitive data, but left all values and formulas intact. I tried if I can still reproduce the bug and it's still there.

What exactly should I do to reproduce the bug?

There are a lot of fields with additions. If I just add another value in the formula to the existing ones and press enter, it crashes. Not always, but sometimes.

I can confirm that this happens quite frequently here as well (once or twice a week), when altering an existing field, by for example pressing F2 and then adding additional text in the field.
Comment 8 Nick Hibma 2021-05-31 10:07:56 UTC
Please change importance of this bug to major (should be critical really) as this crashes the application quite frequently and makes the user loose work.

I'm using OpenOffice on some machines now for this reason.

I added 300 into D11. No crash.

Do you still see this with 7.5? Some macOS stability improvements were made recently.
