Description levelobleu 2021-04-11 18:42:31 UTC
Description:
Hi, and first of all I'm really grateful for libreOffice to exist, thank you (and all)!

Bug: the space between two lines vary. For example two lines are separated by a blank space of the same visual size, but one allows writing a line of text in between, the other not. Also sometimes in the visual for two lines with no possible writing line can be different, one small, the other larger.

Sorry i could not say from the options available what my hardware is. It's a laptop PC Thinkpad X201.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.write any amount of text
2.press enter once
3.

Actual Results:
A: end of one line, i press enter once = the usual non-writable blank space between two lines is created.
B: end of another line in the same text file, i press enter once: a bigger blank space is created than in A, wide enough for a text line to fit, but it is just unusable blank line space
C: Sometimes two blank line spaces appear smaller than in B, but still slightly different one from another

Expected Results:
varying blank space line (and by this I mean blank space where you can't write any text)

equal space created by one press Enter button, by two, three, and so on

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Version : 6.4.6.2
Build ID : 1:6.4.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Linux 5.4; UI Render : par défaut; VCL: gtk3;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Langue IHM : fr-FR
Calc: threaded

Difference between A and B is illustrated by screenshot named A-and-B, the highlighted space does not allow text, even if it appears of the same size of the space between the central paragraph (Babington leek) and the next (Poirier-canard), wich allows text line.
Second screenshot, named secondscreenshot, illustrate C.
This is not new, I notice this since some months (maybe since ever? can't remember). Gil Scott Heron "I'm new here" is a great song.

In the bug report

"varying blank space line (and by this I mean blank space where you can't write any text)"

should be in Actual results, not Expected results

Each "line" with an "Enter" is actually a paragraph. So, depending on the paragraph style there will be additional "leading" applied as spacing before or after the paragraph.

You can see paragraph vs. leading by enabling the Formatting Marks <Ctrl>+<F10> (or from the View menu).

Each paragraph will be closed with a "Pilcrow" ( ¶ -- U+00B6) character from the font used in the paragraph. Spacing for the paragraph above, and para below is controled from the Paragraph... dialog's "Indents & Spacing" tab.

The standard template, "Default" paragraph style has no additional space above or below. Other styles from the standard template, e.g. Text Body, will apply the leading.

Thank you for your answer, I did ctrl + F10, and it shows even more
clearly the difference of space created for one paragraph and the other.
It is in the same text, so one template is applied at the time. I join a
screenshot to this mail. In the middle, just up to the word
Amphicarpaea, there is additional space between the word and the
paragraph sign. It is just blank space, not a text line. Actually in
this page you have the three examples of different spaces for a
paragraph: Up : just the space for a text line, down: a little bit more
(on top of the paragraph sign), middle: much more, enough to virtually
fit an other text line (under the paragraph sign).
best regards
