Created attachment 171257 [details] Font comparison, in ODT and PDF OS: Artix Linux x86_64 Kernel: 5.10.30-1-lts DE: Plasma 5.21.4 WM: KWin LO packages: libreoffice-still 7.0.5-3 and libreoffice-still-it 7.0.5-1 As of title, using bold on EB Garamond (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/EB+Garamond) in LO Writer seems to have no effect when exporting/printing, although the font should support it. The font is correctly installed in the system, and displayed correctly when used as bold in Writer, but if the text is exported to PDF/printed, the bold becomes regular text. This does not happen with other fonts on the same computer, see the attached files in zip archive for a comparison between EB Garamond and Liberation Serif. Includes ODT and resulting PDF.
No repro in Windows with EB installed from that link (not variable). In Linux Mint I installed via Synaptic package manager and I didn't have "EB Garamond" but 08 and 12, so text was with replaced fonts. It was old. Then in Mint I installed from that link and no repro. I printed to PDF. So, this is not a general bug. Please try to find out yourself what is the problem. If you printed to printer, try with PDF. You should try with daily master from LO website.
Created attachment 171311 [details] Bug Reproducibility and Examples on Windows
See the new attachment for reproducibility and examples in Windows. Clarification: the bug is related to the use of variable weight fonts (that should be fully supported by LO), not to the use of static fonts (please do NOT use them). Interesting detail: with the latest dev build on Windows, bold is not rendered correctly when LO Export to PDF is used, but it works if the PDF is printed through Microsoft Print to PDF. A question, what did you mean with <<I didn't have "EB Garamond" but 08 and 12>>? I didn't understand.
There is something strange here. With Lo 7.2+ in Windows and variable EB, I see exported PDF with bold and printed with bad or no bold. Maybe someone who knows better should confirm.
There is currently no support for OTF 'variable' font handling in LibreOffice. See bug 103596 for use in documents, and bug 108497 for the printing/export support that would be needed.
