description of both bugs

Hello,

This is my first bug submission so sorry if anything missing.

I am using LibreOffice v7.1.2.2

I like to suggest two changes in LibreOffice Calc software

* First Change:
The default padding of cell is 0.35mm which is not looking good. I suggest you to set it default to 0.71mm so it will look good and set some space between each cell. See attached screenshot for details

* Second Change:
The second change is for text alignment when editing any cell. I see the text is centered in 0.71mm padding. But when I edit any cell than the text goes to top. So it's not respecting padding when editing text. Also it's not respecting alignment too. Plese see attached screenshot to understand this properly.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Bimal

I respectfully disagree.

Not sure about this too (and I can only follow the jump to the top). AFAIK, the cell editing is done in a completely different context and changing it might be a huge effort.

More opinions please.

First: The existing padding in Calc is well choosen to be also compatible/comparable with MS Excel. A bigger padding would disrupt this.

Second: Is already reported as Bug 87420 - In-cell editing field is always top-aligned

For the cell padding, I am also comparing with MS Excel. I don't know default padding in MS Excel but practically it's higher than LibreOffce Calc.

I checked by editing and looks like there is too little space between text and cell borders in LibreOffice. The MS Office looks good and the padding (or called margin) is perfect and looks good.

This topic was on the agenda for the design meeting. The first request, to make the cell padding larger, is rejected. But you can easily do it yourself- save the document as template and make it the default to always have your settings.

The second issue has been reported, so making this one a duplicate.

Hi,

"Save the document as template and make it the default to always have your settings."
-- Yes this is useful. Thanks for this.

As "Thomas Lendo" told:
"First: The existing padding in Calc is well choosen to be also compatible/comparable with MS Excel. A bigger padding would disrupt this."

-- But this is already different. I am just making is compatible. I compared cell by taking screenshot and found they are different and 0.71 is perfect.

Anyway, the Default Template solution work for me. So I am happy now.

My guess - you are saving in.xls format (not .xlsx). I see hints that .xls uses .71 while .xlsx uses 0.35.
