Description Christopher Bailey 2021-05-09 16:46:25 UTC
Description:
The key combination Alt+E always summons the Extension Manager and cannot be reassigned. For anyone who uses a Macintosh keyboard layout, this makes acute accents nearly impossible.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Type Alt+E; Extension Manager appears.
2. Go to Tools>Customize>Function; Extension Manager is not in the list.
3. Despair.

Actual Results:
Extension Manager does not appear in the list of functions in the Customize dialog box; thus it cannot be removed from the Alt+E key combination.

Expected Results:
I should be able to remove Extension Manager and assign Alt+E to another function.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Because I use a Macintosh keyboard layout in Windows, this means I can’t type acute accents in LibreOffice Writer, which is disabling, since I frequently have to quote multiple languages.

It seems this feature, which I’m calling a bug, was deliberately added to fix the complaint that the Extension Manager could not be summoned with a key combination (Bug 58845). However, it breaks acute accents for me and anyone else who uses the same keyboard layout. The only workaround is to use Insert>Special Character, or to use a different keyboard layout and break my thirty years of ingrained habit.

Confirmed, it still needs an UNO command to be added to the Customize dialog list of functions as pointed out in bug 58845 -- which remains open for this issue. But I won't set this a dupe.

Otherwise fro OP, the Special Character dialog's split button on the Standard toolbar holds 'Faorites' and 'Recents' allowing keyboard or mouse entry without opening the dialog. While the <Atl>+X conversion of Unicode entries gives you direct control of the glyph from keyboard. Not as convenient as keyboard specific deadkeys, or the Apple PressAndHold.app on macOS, but functional.

None the less the UNO command allowing reassignment is needed.

Dear Christopher Bailey,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
