Steps to Reproduce:
1.Insert / Section / Link
2.Choose a PDF file
3.See the empty section...

Actual Results:
Section empty

PDF displayed in the section, eventually with the possibility to choose pages to display

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It's an important feature to be able to compile PDF files into a LibreOffice master document, like in FrameMaker...

I guess this can be confirmed as an enhancement.

Not following the work flow.

A PDF can be link inserted into master document--but has no preview, nor page representation taken from the PDF. PDF will open in Draw when selected from the master document navigator. Multi-page rendering of the PDF by the Draw import filters (warts and all as to fidelity to original).

Otherwise PDF pages can be inserted into a defined frame in a section. Or directly into a section via the Insert -> Image filter with high fidelity.

And, if link inserted into a Writer document as a new section, with Insert -> Section with Link and a file selection of the PDF, the PDF pages will render as blank place holder pages--the filter import simply does not render the draw shapes to VCL canvas within a section (even if selecting the "PDF - Portable Document Format (Writer) (.pdf)" filter from the file manager).

So note clear what is desired--filter rework to render Draw shape objects to document canvas within Section, or handling of linked PDF within Master Document.

Either case rather dubious practice as LibreOffice is not a PDF editor/viewer; so binding PDF into a master document (to open in LO Draw) is not a reasonable workflow.

Eventual work on bug 114234 for better handling of multipage document sources, e.g. PDF or TIFF, and adjustment to the ipdf "pdfium" based import filter as for bug 115811 are more in line with scope of LibreOffice handling of PDF source content within our ODF Documents.

Seems to depend on the PDF. Tried with some large document and could reproduce the issue (Insert > Section: [x] Link, File Name: [Foo] = some empty pages). But saving dummy text as PDF both short df+f3 or long (two pages with some formatting) works as expected.

Dear Nicolas,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
