Description: 1) In LibreOffice Writer, while editing an .odt file, select "Save As" from the "File" menu. 2) In the "Save As" dialog window, use the mouse cursor to select an existing .odt file from the browser pane above the "File name:" field. The goal is to create a new file from a template (like an invoice) with a new number and keywords at the end of the file name. 2) In the same window, use the mouse cursor to click-drag to select a portion of the text in the "File name:" field, through the end of the existing file name to be altered. HERE'S THE PROBLEM: 3) After click-dragging to select the text, instead of selection being retained so that user can type to overwrite the selection (expected behavior), the selection is lost and the text input cursor moves to the beginning of the "File name:" field. If user types at this moment, this will displace the existing text at the beginning of the file name instead of overwriting the selection as expected. For repetitive file creation processes, this is annoying and unexpected, and often results in having to re-edit the file name. This behavior does not happen 100% of the time. I'm not sure what else I might be doing to cause it, but thought I'd ask. Steps to Reproduce: 1) In LibreOffice Writer, while editing an .odt file, select "Save As" from the "File" menu. 2) In the "Save As" dialog window, use the mouse cursor to select an existing .odt file from the browser pane above the "File name:" field. You repeated few times, but not clear to me what you want. Steps should be with example names and what to select and do.
Hi there, sorry for not being clear. The expected behavior is: 1) Use mouse cursor to select some text in the "Save as:" field 2) User begins typing 3) Selected text is deleted and replaced by text entry The unwanted behavior I am experiencing is: 1) Use mouse cursor to select some text in the "Save as:" field 2) User begins typing 3) Text is de-selected and typed entry is inserted at the beginning of "Save as:" field, before the existing text in the field. Does that help clarify? Thank you!
[Automated Action] NeedInfo-To-Unconfirmed
Not sure if I understand yet: 1. Open Save as Dialog and select some file to get that as File name 2. mouse click in File name, all text is selected 3. mouse click again in the middle of text where you want to change, text is deselected 4. select part of text you will replace and type to replace and add other Maybe you dislike step 2. but that's how dialog works, same in Firefox. Please clarify.
That sounds right! Again the cursor jumping to the beginning in this context is inconsistent... I can't figure out why it does it only sometimes, but I will keep looking out to see if I can make it more reproducible. Thank you!
There's this automatic change which is not correct, so I set back to Needinfo. Please reply only if you can make reproducible steps (no "ok" or anything now) . Otherwise you'll be notified in 6 months.
FYI I noticed the same behavior occurs in the "Export" window when attempting to export as PDF. Still only intermittent.
Tested about 10 times, but could not reproduce. Have you seen this with version 7.3?
