Description Alexander 2021-06-16 09:00:30 UTC
Description:
LibreOffice fails to open files that have non-Latin characters in the filename. Please see attachments. Looks like it once has been reported some years ago regarding version 4.x
Well, please accept my congratulations, it is still there in 6.4.7.2... what a shame! :-(
I am really frustrated. I know this software is free, so I'm not supposed to complain. But it should work somehow, anyway. I would prefer buying MS Office instead because I must work! Unfortunately, MS Office is not available for my Kubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a file with some non-Latin characters, like Cyrillic or Japanese.
2.Try opening it, no matter if you just click on the file or use "Open..." menu.

Actual Results:
File cannot be opened at all. It only works if I rename the file to something 100% Latin.

Expected Results:
File should be opened just like any other.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Can be reproduced from both NTFS and ext4 partitions.

The same problem happens in the latest version that I was able to download directly... UNBELIEVEABLE! Do you guys know actually anything about software development? Where did you study that? India?

I've reviewed thousand of bugs - as a volunteer.
Never saw such a stupid and rude report of person who didn't bother to read BZ rules before spit out it's 1st report, insulting both all contributors and the whole nation of India.
Report indicated he saw the similar report already, just used this to spread his anger and bad behavior.
He should simply be blocked.

Yes, I saw a similar report dated years ago, and this is exactly what frustrates me even more: nothing has changed! I'm sorry about being rude, but I am a programmer myself and I don't think this is the way it should be done. No problem about me being blocked since I can't use software anyway.

Here's a link how to contribute: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/GetInvolved
Since you seem to be an expert in software dev, I suppose you can find a fix in just 1 day, the time to retrieve sources, build them, find the pb in the code and propose a fix on gerrit.

About MsOffice, you can try https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/install-use-microsoft-office-linux/ or buy a license of Win10 and make a dualboot with Ubuntu.

Isn't a Base bug (database of LO). Have set this one to LibreOffice.

Have searched a little bit for a similar bug but couldn't find it. There is something reported a time ago for LibreOffice online - but not for LO as desktop version.

Julien,

Thank you for your advice. I could try following it and maybe propose a fix/workaround, but I don't see a reason to contribute since I have found other options on how to solve my problem without involving LibreOffice. Regarding the idea of running Windows software in Linux -- I know it is feasible but I believe this is generally a bad idea. I already own Win10 license and use dual-boot config: the Windows version of LibreOffice doesn't have this glitch.

It looks like all of you people seem to have gotten insulted by my attitude,.. well, I'm sorry, that is my temper. I got higher standards of software development, I guess. You install it, you click the file, and it just works -- this is how it should be, no matter if it's free or not. Don't think anyone would disagree. Since I'm a bad and rude guy, I'm on my own now with this one. This bug now can be closed as resolved/unconfirmed/unresolved/whatever. Have a nice day.

Reporter is extremely negative an unhelpful and we only agree that this should be closed.
If someone is interested in this issue, there's bug from Telesto.
