Description rickpress 2021-06-20 14:56:18 UTC
Description:
Using multiple animated gifs slow down impress. Some gifs are fine but once you have around 4 - say one on each slide - it slows down big time and the mouse hangs.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create an impress presentation
2. Create 4 or 5 slides
3. Upload a different animated gif to each. Eventually one will cause the system to hang / be very slow.

Actual Results:
As above.

Expected Results:
There should be no slowdown.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
Had this problem on work pc as well as home pc.

Tried playing with SKIA and graphics and rendering settings makes no difference at all on whatever setting is used. This bug has been around for a long time and hope it can be fixed.

ESL (English Second language) ppt with animated gifs.

Go through the slides on the slide panner eventually when the animated gifs come along after a few the whole impress app will slow down to a crawl and just become very unusable. It's been like this for years. Yet no one seems to fix this. :(

Confirming with:

Version: 7.3.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 2a7e64da7f385de8dbba1802530e251cf29259fb
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 18363; UI render: default; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (hu_HU); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

In slideshow mode the slide transitions and the animated gifs are slow.
In editing mode the processor is at 100% utilization, the gifs are not always slow, but the whole of Impress is.

Some GIFS are fast, some are slow. I don't know why this is.

If you download other gifs from the web and add them you can have a Impress file which is fast without slowdown.

It seems SOME animated gifs cause this problem others dont.

Just an observation.

Not sure what causes this. I tried changing all the rendering options (hardware acceleration and SKIA etc all of that multiple time the bug still occurs).

Strange it works fast (normal) with some animated gifs and hangs with others.

I'm not a programmer just giving some observations on the bug.

Hope this can get fixed eventually as it's annoying for people who heavily dependent on Impress (like foreign language teachers).

Thanks

The workaround for this bug seems to be turning off animated images from the settings menu - at least it is a workaround.

But it's still frustrating.

Hope someone can fix this.

Looks duplicate, please explain if not.

If it is a duplicate of a bug that was reported years ago what is the likelihood of this getting fixed anytime soon? Just asking politely as it seems strange to have a bug like this for years and not fix it.

Not strange. Lo is volunteer driven, so you can fix yourself, find or pay someone do it or just wait patiently, sometimes days sometimes decades.
