Description Tracey 2021-06-23 16:57:59 UTC
Description:
All applicable languages should appear in the [Text Language] section of a multi-lingual spreadsheet.
I would like to be able to select a cell or range of cells and apply the applicable language from the [Text Language] for spell-checking purposes.

When working with a multi-lingual spreadsheet, <right>-clicking on the [Text Language] section only shows the default language as a choice.
    • <Only> the language of a <mono>-lingual spreadsheet ---or--- <All> the languages used in a <multi->lingual spreadsheet should appear in the [Text Language] section and no other language.
        ◦ Any need for additional languages can be added: by using the [more…] option or <select> the text and change the [format>character>font>language] from the tool bar.

Thanks, Tracey

Do you think implementing what bug 127856 is asking for would solve this for you?

Spreadsheet with Spanish and English Words

Scrolling thru a list of languages becomes very time consuming 8-(
I want to be able to right-click and select an applicable language from the [Text Language] box as I can in LibreOffice Writer (standard functionality is what I ([am expecting / wanting]) to do.
Thanks, Tracey
>>> Presently my work-around is to apply the language properties to 1 cell then copy the cell-format to the others 8-)

I was able to reproduce the issue on:
Version: 7.5.0.0.alpha1+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 3b0b9fcb80242abcedc01eb388a57b1016916353
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22000; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

The causal ticket may relate to bug 127856.

Behavior of the 'Text Language' field on the Status bar for Calc should be consistent with Writer's handling of paragraph and table cell language.

We should display the text language (for spell check) and provide a list of in use, or to set additional languages, for selected Calc cell paragraph content.

The Status bar should display text language of the selected cell(s), or the cell with cursor focus.

At master against 7.5 currently, we only display the global document language with no indication of individual cell paragraph language value.

IMHO => NEW

There should also be an option to set the language for the cell via Tools > Language.

Meanwhile a workaround might be to define two cell styles, one with font language Spanish and the other for English. Unfortunately you don't see the cell style in the statusbar, only the page style, but with the sidebar/Navigator open it shows nicely.
Comment 9 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2023-11-27 09:40:11 UTC
I understand this is already covered in existing tickets:

* bug 34142: the status bar should show the cell (range)'s language, not the document's
* bug 76750: change language of cell (range) from top menu > Tools > Language
* bug 127856: the status bar's "More..." should lead to the Font tab in the Cell Format dialog. But the suggested solution applies to the whole popup and the discussion is happening there, see Eike's bug 127856 comment 3, and Heiko's bug 127856 comment 8.

Therefore, marking as duplicate of bug 127856.
Thanks all!
