Additional filter options help page [1] describes the option of using regular expressions in filter definition. But there's no mention that regular expression match is only attempted when the Value field data can't be converted to number; this is absolutely same as mentioned e.g. for MATCH [2] and the like. The documentation problem lead to e.g. tdf#140613 and tdf#140836.
