Description Salih S 2021-09-23 20:27:54 UTC
Description:
I cannot type exponents in LIbreOffice Math by using the circumflex key on my keyboard. I cannot type "^" at all in the formula input area. This occurs while typing mathematical formulars inside of a Writer document as well as in the Math app itself. The "^"-key works while typing a Text inside of an writer document.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start formula editor and type x
2.type cirumflex key ^
3.type a number for the wished exponent

Actual Results:
nothing

Expected Results:
writing ^and generating an exponent

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Before the last update the formula editor was working as expected.

Can not confirm on Windows builds

Version: 7.2.1.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 87b77fad49947c1441b67c559c339af8f3517e22
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19043; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Keyboard input with '^' in the sm input window accepts and formats as exponent, opened in-line from Writer or in the Math module.

What os/DE are you working with?

Please reset user profile, or test with restart in SafeMode profile.

No repro either with

Version: 7.2.2.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 0e408af0b27894d652a87aa5f21fe17bf058124c
CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 11.6; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR
Calc: threaded

I typed :

sin 3^x - cos x^y

into new formula editor file, or in a Writer document (insert equation) - everything is displayed correctly.

In the meanwhile I did a complete reset of my profile. Nothing changed.
My formula editor does not even react to the ^ key.

In Version 7.1.6.2 on another Computer with Ubuntu 20.04 (GNOME) the ^-key was working as expected. After updating to Version 7.2.1.2 everything is still working.

Somehow Manjaro sticks with 7.2.0.2 at the moment where this issue is still present. When I type x^2 in Writer highlight the text and go to the formula editor everything is displayed correctly. But inside the formula editor there is no way that it will react to my ^key.

Comment 5 Salih S 2021-09-25 11:49:34 UTC
After updating to Version 7.2.1.2 in Manjaro GNOME the circumflex key is still not working in the LibreOffice formula editor.

The same Version works in Ubuntu as expected.

I checked the situation on 2 more laptops running Manjaro.
The non-functioning circumflex in the formula editor occurs also on Manjaro XFCE if the newest "fresh" version (community) is installed. The "still" version (7.1.6-1) is working without this annoying issue in Manjaro XFCE.

Best Regards.

I'm going to mark this as NOTOURBUG in light of the comments provided by the original reporter, as the problem only seems to affect Manjaro.
