Description Phrytz 2021-10-04 22:52:19 UTC
Description:
Can not tell where the focus is when editing (double clicking) a TEXT BOX in DRAW. Have to type a character to find the cursor(focus). Works fine in WRITER and CALC.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.From within DRAW select INSERT / TEXT BOX or (F2).
2.Create a text box by dragging pointer diagonally.
3.Type some lines of text.
4.Exit text box by clicking outside of box.
5.Double click on some text in the text box.
6.No flashing cursor indicating where the text/edit will start.

Actual Results:
Unable to tell start adding/editing without typing some bogus character indicating where the focus is. After typing a character the cursor shows up.

Expected Results:
A flashing cursor, same as CALC and WRITER.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
Unable to find any reference to this invisible/no cursor problem within Help or Guides.

Can not confirm inability to refocus text cursor into Draw/Impress text box object.

The UI is different for Draw (Impress) text box objects. Native in sd, but added with limited function to Writer and Calc.

However, cursor focus is restored to a Draw/Impress draw text box. Either by first click focusing the text box object and then click focus at specific location of text entry. Or directly by mouse over over the text of the text box object--where the mouse pointer will change from a move cursor to the text input cursor, and a click will activate text input cursor at that point.

Selection in Writer/Calc is more cumbersome and requires initial selection of the draw text box object, and then double click selection on the text box to enter text edit mode--cursor positioned at end of text run on entry, and position can be moved (keyboard or mouse click).

thanks for comment V Stuart Foote

I am unable to duplicate your description in DRAW, although it works fine in IMPRESS. I agree that the functionality in IMPRESS is very quick and easy to use.

Within DRAW, I am not able to create a "text cursor" without typing text first.
I am up to date on OpenGl, and my Profile. I will look at other applications conflicting with DRAW (Graphic/CAD/Photo editors on my machine). It would be nice to have it work like IMPRESS does. Thanks again.

Thanks (note that I asked you to click the copy button in the dialog and paste as pure text).

Does it make a difference, if you deactivate this: Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View - Use Skia for all rendering

Yes, it still does not show a cursor after:
deactivate this: Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View - Use Skia for all rendering
It was activated.

Check setting of Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice Draw -> General

is the check box for 'Allow quick editing' checked? If not, check it, and please retest. The same control is provided in Impres, but is not implemented for draw Text Box objects in writer or calc.

Problem Resolved. Thank you everyone for your time and patience.

Resolution:
   Under Tools, Options/LibreOffice Draw/General/
Text Object: Make sure [Allow Quick Editing] is checked

Works with [Use Skia for all rendering]active/inactive
 seems to make no difference.

Thanks Again
