hi, I have just took "FILE/Templates/Open template", and the selected template actually opened as a template, for editing. Wow! Could have been that a new document had been created based on the selected template... I remember that I always had problem with these menu items, menu titles... then checked another route: "File/Templates/manage templates/open" -- and bumm, it was a new document based on the selected template... that is, things have not been tidied up totally yet :) - - - what I'd expect as improvements of the menu titles regarding templates: #1 "Templates/open template" should stay as it is :) cause it does what its title says :) #2 below "Templates/open template" there could be a "new from template" menu item... #3 there could be a "This:" menu item on the top, showing the current document's template, and whether or not it would be updated, that is, whether or not some in-document changes have been committed to the styles and a normal update is no longer possible... #4 now, this one is a brave new idea, came up in this very moment, sorry if it is stupid :) BUT... there could be a "change underlying template" or simply: "change this template" (meaning this doc's template) menu item, too... which would open the templates window, and we could select which template should be made the new basis for our current document... - - - - in the templates window... (manage templates) #5 "EDIT" is cool... cause it does what it says... BUT "Open" could be replaced with "New from this" or "New doc" #6 the same would happen, of course, when you go: "File/New/Templates".... however, "Templates" could be replaced with "From template"... #7 "File/Wizards" seems logical to go to "File/New/Wizards" whereas "File/Templates" should stay where it is :) :) For wizards and templates together "suggest" the context of creating a new document... #8 perhaps "File/Properties" could move up to be together with "Templates"... like "separator | Templates Properties | separator" (vertically arranged, of course :)) - - - thank you for developing Libreoffice - - -
(In reply to peter josvai from comment #0) > #1 "Templates/open template" should stay as it is :) cause it does what its > title says :) Please be more specific - and always add the version info. My menu lists File > Templates > Edit Template... | Save as Template... | Manage Templates and File > New > * | Templates... > #2 below "Templates/open template" there could be a "new from template" > menu item... We have Manage Templates under New and under Templates. Don't see need for more. Some work has been done for bug 138621 > #3 there could be a "This:" menu item on the top, showing the current > document's template You find this information at File > Properties... > #4 there could be a "change underlying template" Which is requested in bug 50699 and available per https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/template-changer > #5 "EDIT" is cool... cause it does what it says... Please only one topic per ticket. in the end, you asked the same question in bug 123178, which was made a duplicate of bug 104074. We agreed on renaming New > From Template... for clarification and wait for a volunteer doing the easy hack. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 104074 ***
