Description Telesto 2021-11-14 16:58:14 UTC
Description:
UI: Maybe rename "Area" deck to "Area fill" and effect deck to 'glow and soft edge effect'

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Draw
2. Draw a textbox (and type something into it)
3. Click outer border -> And look at sidebar -> Note area
4. Or insert a image in draw

Actual Results:
"Area'; 'Effect' deck

Expected Results:
"Area" is collapsed. And the description kind of minimalistic. Same holds true with 'effect'. If effect deck is collapsed it unclear what it contains. I would also include 'Shadow' as an effect. If effect is called glow and soft edge effect is clear what it contains

I struggle a little with "Line" too

Note: yes this is the area of details and somewhere around personal preferences.
And well dialog is matching with the deck in multiple cases..
And we there are of course the translation issues (and spacing required)

Reproducible: Always

The term 'glow and soft edge effect' might become overly long after translation.

"Area" was a new name for what used to be "Background" (I have no idea about the motivation, just noting). It it the term also used in menus and dialogs; so either the rename should be universal (so that user sees consistent term throughout the UI), or we don't change it here.

Wrt "Effect" - it was expected that other effects would also land here, the first one *potentially* being shadow, and even if shadow would not, other missing effects might get implemented eventually. I would not advise do this rename.

Agree

Well it makes sense to keep 'effects' if more effects are to be expected. Regarding to 'merging' shadow with effects.. In my perception it makes sense.. However not sure if matches bug 145681, where is stated that 'effects' like glow and soft edge, don't belong in the sidebar of Writer.

For UI consistency I would; if practical need having 'glow & soft edge' no clue (but I have tendency to say the same about shadow). OK shadow is used for Fontwork.

Since we do not want to rename Effects and renaming Area has some consequences for not much benefit we better keep the naming.
