Description Daniel Will 2021-11-19 20:30:39 UTC
Description:
I have REPEATEDLY set the default style with orphan and widow control of 3 (rather than the default 2). I change the setting, I immediately save.

During the session, that setting stays. But if I close the file and reopen it, the setting reverts to 2/2 instead of 3/3

This is CONSISTENT.

7.1.6.2 (x64)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into Default Style (on a long doc, mine is 620 pages)
2. Change orphan AND widow control to 3
3. Save file
4. Close Writer
5. Open Writer
6. Open file
7. Note that the orphan widow controls have reverted to 2

Actual Results:
Orphan and Widow control settings will rever to 2/2 rather than the previous set (and saved!) 3/3

Expected Results:
Orphan Widow control saved at 3/3 should be at 3/3 when the file is reopened.

Reproducible: Always

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today or with LO Debian package 7.2.2.2 I don't reproduce this.

Here the steps I did:
- Create a brand new file
- F11
- Right click on "Default Paragraph Style" + Modify
- Click "Text Flow" tab
- Put 3 to Orphan control and 3 to Widow control (instead of 2 for both)
- Click Ok
- Save the odt file
- Close the file
- Reopen it
- Right click again on "Default Paragraph Style" + Modify
- Click "Text Flow" tab
=> both Orphan control and Widow control have 3 for values.

Did you saved in odt or in another format? Do you reproduce this on a brand new file?

The file is 620 pages long and was originally created in Google Docs and saved as a .docx file--and subsequently saved as a DOCX file.

When I changed the orphan/widow and saved to .ODT format, that correct setting was maintained.

Orphan and widow values are saved when using odt, but it's not the case with docx.

I noticed tdf#124366 so I put it in See also.

IIRC, ms formats don't have options for size of widows/orphans. It is either on (2) or off (0).

Yup. From bug 89714, "Widow/Orphans are default in MS Word since at least 2003. The number of lines is hard-coded to 2/not-user-adjustable in that version."
