Description Dennis Rice 2021-11-23 17:22:36 UTC
As an enhancement, can an addition to Writer be made that is equivalent to 'Grammarly'. This is an add-on enhancement to a web browser but it would be nice to also have such incorporated into Writer. I'm sure that if an English teacher were to read my documents that I would have a lot of corrections.

Appreciate all the the great work that all of you do.

Dennis, there are still some extensions for gramar checking, for example "Language Tool". Which feature do you miss there?

I have a modified cliché,
Intuitive obvious to the most casual observer – when you are intimately familiar with the subject.

To put it simple, my English skills are absolutely the greatest and I need every bit of help I can get, certainly when I don’t know when I’m screwing up.

I have seen “Grammarly” working when I have typed a response on a web page as an underlining of some text, so I know that I needed to make corrections.

Would appreciate any guidance / improvements that can be made as I need all the help I can get.

Appreciate all that all of those working on LibreOffice are doing and I really like using it.

Click on Tools, Options, Language Settings Writing Aids. Check to make sure Lightproof grammar checker (English) in the top box is checked, then make sure Check Grammar as You Type is checked in the box at the bottom called Options.
The click on English Sentence Checking back under Language Settings and check what you want to be checked under Grammar checking.

I have followed the instructions to insure that Lightproof was (previously) installed and made sure that the “Grammar checking was properly checked.

I have seen another posting that showed that when the Tools was highlighted, that the top line showed “Spelling and Grammar”, this does not appear on my version (7.2.2.2).

Minor typo to the previous message:
To put it simple, my English skills are absolutely NOT the greatest and I need every bit of help I can get, certainly when I don’t know when I’m screwing up.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open writer
2. Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Writing Aids. Check to make sure Lightproof grammar checker (English) in the top box is checked
3. Make sure Check Grammar as You Type is checked in the box at the bottom called Options.
4. Make also sure, that language of your document is English
5. Type some setences with wrong grammar, e.g: "I can understanding English. and "He do his homework."

Actual result:
Wrong sentences are not underlined (not expected)

6. Tools -> Spelling

Actual result:
Dialog says "The Spell Check is complete". I also notive, that "check grammar" is disabled. (not expected)

7. Press O.K.

Result: "Check grammar" is checked and Text language is [NONE] (not expected)

Dennis, can you confirm these steps and do they cover your problem?

Have upgraded to 7.2.4.1
Response:
2. Lightproof Grammar Checker is checked.
3. Check grammar as You Type is checked
4. Selected language is Languages → Interface English
5. Typing sentence:
	I can understanding English.
		Nothing is underlined.
	He do his homework.
		Nothing is underlined.
6. Spelling Languages → Hunspell Spellchecker is checked
Not sure if this is the correct requirement, but spell checking is working
(I’m especially poor at that too and very glad that it works!)
Did note that under Language Settings, English Sentence Checking, Grammar Checking, Possible mistakes was not checked

Noted that under Language Settings, English Sentence Checking, Grammar Checking,
Possible mistakes option was not checked.
I check the option but when checking “Apply” and “OK”, did not see the above grammar issues underlined (I’m making all of my notes while in LO).

In noting that after pasting the above notes into this web page response comment page that "Gammarly" underlines the above suggested "errored" sentences. I did close LO and then restart and found that the issue with the underlining of the "error" sentences did not show up as such.

I do not understand what I am doing wrong.
