In 7.4.0.0, LO Writer will sometimes show the spinning rainbow wheel for a couple of seconds after waking up, but then it's fine. No freeze.

Konrad, would you copy and paste the information from the "About LibreOffice" window?
Comment 2 Wim M 2021-12-13 22:36:47 UTC
I can confirm that this has also been happening for me on the most recent versions of LO, at least all release versions in the 7.2.x line.

Typical behaviour will be that when I return from sleep or after a period of inactivity, I need to Force Quit LO Writer in order to restart it. Focusing on the app gives a spinning beachball. It does not happen all the time, but it does happen almost every time. It's also more likely to happen when the system has been asleep longer.

My current install:

Version: 7.2.4.1 / LibreOffice Community

@Wim: Can you give detailed info about your mac? Which Model, Year, Arm or Intel, exact macOS version you are running.
Comment 4 Michael Warner 2021-12-15 13:17:11 UTC
Also, do either of you have a document open at the time? If you do, is it located on a network share, or a local disk?

Of course. It's a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015; also MacBookPro11,5) with a 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 and both an Intel Iris Pro and AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.6.2; it also happened on previous versions of Big Sur, although I don't recall it happening on Catalina or earlier (of course those were also earlier versions of LO).

It may also only have occurred when I have connected an external monitor; I usually work with an external monitor but when I take the computer on the road, LO does not seem to freeze.

(In reply to steve from comment comment #4)
It only happens when a document is open. The document is saved locally.
Comment 6 Wim M 2021-12-19 15:37:00 UTC
Just to clarify my last comment: it happens when one or more documents are open, all saved locally on the Mac.
Comment 7 Wim M 2022-01-17 09:45:24 UTC
I have now upgraded to LO 7.2.5.2 on macOS 12.1 and this bug still occurs.

I can also confirm that it only happens when an external screen is connected; when using my MBP as stand-alone, it does not.

As stated before, one or more documents must be open (in Writer); they are saved locally.

Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5

Comment 8 Wim M 2022-05-18 19:37:51 UTC
In the past couple of days, I have experienced this bug again multiple times on the most recent version of LO, almost losing a considerable amount of work in the process.

macOS version: 12.4

Version: 7.3.3.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d1d0ea68f081ee2800a922cac8f79445e4603348
CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 10.16; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-GB
Calc: threaded

The remaining details of my system are still the same. And it only occurs when I have an external screen connected.

@Konrad, Wim : could you please try out the 7.5 beta version to see whether the problem still exists ?

A couple of fixes have recently gone into that branch which dealt with scheduling and lokcing, and they might have resolved this particular issues as well.
Comment 10 Wim M 2023-01-12 16:09:00 UTC
@Alex

I've been using 7.5.0.1 for a while now and so far the issue does not seem to be occurring. I'll give it a few more days and report back.
