Description Grzegorz Skoczylas 2021-12-11 12:36:18 UTC
Description:
I select and copy some formatted text (e.g., large, bold fonts or Heading 1) in one instance of Writer. I paste this text into another instance of Writer. Along with the text, its attributes (font typeface and size) are copied. I want to remove this formatting. I select the text and choose the clear formatting function (Ctrl+M). The formatting of the text does not change.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Mark some formatted text in on an instance of Writer (e.g., bold, with larger fonts)
2. Copy and past selected text to other instance of Writer.
3. Try to remove formatting (Ctrl+M).

Actual Results:
The formatting does not change.

Expected Results:
The format of the selected text should be cleared.

Reproducible: Always

I'm unable to reproduce this bug in version 7.2.2.2. Direct formatting is removed when "Format" > "Clean Direct Formatting" is used on characters copied from another document.

Could you please provide a document as test case? Thank you.

After further investigation, I found that my first post on this issue was a little inaccurate.

My source document was created in Google Docs. I exported it to ODT format and copied some sections from it into a new document created in Writer. The copied text included, among other things, a header style “Heading 1”. When I copied this piece of text into Writer, the original “Heading 1” style was replaced with other “Heading 1” style copied from a document created in Google. As a result, all the “Heading 1” style lines in my new document started to look different. I thought that format cleaning was not working. Meanwhile, this function worked correctly, but the style definition was automatically changed.

In that case, it may not be a bug, but – in my opinion – in such a situation the Writer should at least warn that it is changing the style definition. It would be even better if it informed that the copied text has some styles indicated and asked whether to copy them to Writer and replace the existing styles.

Your steps are not able to reproduce without a sample document. Perhaps you can also make steps to reproduce more easier. So please add a sample document wih some steps to reproduce.

Please accept my apologies.

The [Ctrl+M] shortcut still doesn't work for me, but I just found the cause. It turned out that after some update, Skype includes many keyboard shortcuts, including [Ctrl+M]. I didn't notice this before, because although I regularly Skype with my family members, I don't use Skype shortcuts.

Sorry for the false alert.
