Description 1000dead 2021-12-12 12:52:31 UTC
Description:
I have a large text document with 1,000 plus pages containing a mix of text and images. I use a large number of sections dotted about split up into 2 columns for the text. For many months now when a section with columns is edited, it loses its even distribution of text between columns resulting in much of the text in one column only, the other column remains blank and the whole section resizes to fill a whole page. This is causing my documents to balloon up in page count with large amounts of unused empty space in columns.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new blank document. Add a few pages say 5 of random text/paragraph and images.
2. In the middle of the document add a section between any paragraph
2. Press Insert, Section, columns Tab, 2 columns with equal size, spacing 0.40 cm
3. Add a few paragraphs within the section. Text should distribute equally as you type.

Actual Results:
The section will suddenly resize to expand the length of the whole page and text bunches up in one column only.

Expected Results:
Text should distribute equally and balanced across columns and not expand to fill the whole page with blank space.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
This happens always with my main documents, but I find it hard to reproduce with brand new document until I've been working on them for a while. Assuming it was a corrupt file, I have tried restarting with a new document and transferring text and images over in an attempt to lose the bug. Eventually the problem always comes back.

Sample problem odt file

I have added one of my documents (Sections and columns.odt) where the problem always occurs. I have reduced the file down greatly for simplicity.

On the third page there is a section with the following text:

"This section is not distributing the test evenly to both columns and simply extends to the bottom of the page."

Editing this results in the whole section suddenly resizing.

Hope this helps.

The problem still persists in Version: 7.2.6.2. I've tried generating a new document and slowly building up the file with data from the original document to see if I can find where the problem occurs. However, I can not see anything where the problem may lie.
