Description Ken 2021-12-28 20:37:46 UTC
Description:
Crash when I left click and drag the mouse down over a series of formulas (COUTNIFS, MAXIFS, MINIFS, etc.). The bug is reproduced using variations of the formulas (i.e. H:H, $H:$H, H1:HXXXXX). Note, this is just clicking and dragging to SELECT the cells. EDITING

Steps to Reproduce:
1. With formulas entered, select cell (in my case, B7)
2. With left mouse button still held down, drag mouse down (in my case, to cell B10)
3. Program doesn't make it past B8

Actual Results:
Program freezes and must Force Quit to close

Expected Results:
Cells should be selected

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
I've tried restarting my computer, uninstalling 7.2.4 and installing 7.2.5. Issue persists in 7.2.5.

I've also tried to copy the data (cell range from E2:K38, so it's minimal) into a new "spreadsheet" and the issue persists here as well.

The issue does not occur if I have just regular values (not formulas) when clicking and dragging.
Comment 1 Ken 2021-12-28 21:59:37 UTC
After a little more research I think I've identified the problem: When the COUNTIFS (or I assume any ____IFS formula) doesn't use a numerical value in the cell location when referencing the range.

For example:

This formula DOES result in a program / app crash:
     =COUNTIFS(H:H,$A8,F:F,2) [reference column H:H = FAIL]

This formula DOES NOT result in a program / app crash:
     =COUNTIFS(H1:H200,$A8,F1:F200,2) [reference column H1:H200 = NO FAIL]

Hi Ken
Thank you for the report.

Could you please provide us with an example document and precise list of steps to reproduce this?

I couldn't reproduce with:

Version: 7.2.4.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 27d75539669ac387bb498e35313b970b7fe9c4f9
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Created attachment 177204 [details]
Test File for Calc Bug

See attached. Instructions are in the file, but ultimately it's very simple to replicate.

I have a screen recording if you'd like to see that as well.

Thanks!

Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 7 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2021-12-30 11:58:12 UTC
Even with the example file, I couldn't reproduce either with:

Version: 7.3.0.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 840fe2f57ae5ad80d62bfa6e25550cb10ddabd1d
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

or:

Version: 7.2.4.1 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 27d75539669ac387bb498e35313b970b7fe9c4f9
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

But we should get someone on MacOS to test it.
Comment 8 Ken 2021-12-30 16:44:45 UTC
Interesting. FYI, I did try again resetting my profile. If you want a screen recording of the error happening, just let me know.

Keep me posted if it's replicated on Mac OS.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I get no crash on a 2018 Mac mini (Macmini8,1) with macOS Monterey.

Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 12.1; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: en-US (en_HU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
Comment 11 Ken 2022-01-02 12:37:51 UTC
Hate to be that guy but do you think it could be an issue of processors? 2018 would be running an intel and I’m using Apple Silicon.
Comment 12 Aron Budea 2022-01-02 15:33:39 UTC
Alex, could you check this on an M1 Mac sometimes?
Comment 13 Alex Thurgood 2022-01-04 22:25:23 UTC
No repro with test file and LO daily build master :

Version: 7.4.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 9cc3672a4d7e9c9a647d388dba493bbb28d96da2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 10.16; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Apple M1 Macbook Pro 13

Selected B7, dragged mouse pointer down to B15 - no crash
Selected B7, dragged mouse pointer across and down to C16 - no crash
Comment 14 Alex Thurgood 2022-01-04 22:28:11 UTC
Also no repro with test file and

Version: 7.2.1.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 87b77fad49947c1441b67c559c339af8f3517e22
CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 10.16; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR
Calc: threaded

Sorry, there must be something else that is causing the crash when you select with the mouse and try and extend the selected area over the formulae.
Comment 15 Alex Thurgood 2022-01-04 22:32:58 UTC
@Ken : just for the sake of completenes :

- do you have any kind of assistive technology enabled, e.g. desktop magnifier or zoom, or other such ?

- do you have a JDK declared under Advanced - Java, and if so, which version ?
Comment 16 Ken 2022-01-05 13:52:54 UTC
Hi -- No accessibility options enabled. I've tried using Java checked and unchecked, Open CL checked and unchecked, and the file type as .ODS and .XLSX. The issue happens in every scenario.

So odd.

I have a few games installed on my computer but nothing extensive. Nothing directly related to Java that I can see.

I guess feel free to close this ticket and I'll just keep checking to see if new versions correct this issue.

Thanks for looking into this.
