Description jsv 2022-01-03 02:12:15 UTC
Description:
I have a PDF copy of Jan Tschichold's "The Form of the Book" and each time I make a screenshot from it and insert in Writer as PNG, the text on the image is displayed somewhat blurry.

This is really very strange.

If I insert the same screenshots as JPG, the text on them look sharp. And if I type some random text in Times New Roman 11 or 10 pt italic, and save it as png, their text is displayed in Writer sharply as well.

What may be the problem?

@JSV
Could you copy Help -> About dialog (press the copy button) and paste it here.
[Maybe it's caused by Skia/Vulkan]
Comment 7 jsv 2022-01-03 18:52:48 UTC
@Telesto Here it is:

Version: 7.2.4.1 (x86) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 27d75539669ac387bb498e35313b970b7fe9c4f9

Before opening this bug, I tried to ask the same thing on Superuser. Might be useful: https://superuser.com/questions/1697097/png-image-is-blurry
Comment 8 LeroyG 2022-01-03 23:44:49 UTC
As I see, it is only a LibreOffice render issue. If do you export as PDF, you will see the image in the same way that in whatever image editor (not Draw).

Same result if inserting a JPG copy of the original image.

LO 7.1.8.1.

I don't see a difference or it's so subtle that I don't notice.
LO has problem with DPI not set, which is not the case here.

No difference here.

Do you still see this with 7.4 or unstable?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.

@Buovjaga
Well the bug title is probably misleading. I think I see the 'problem'. The image isn't blurry/fuzzy/smeared (except for being low resolution)

There is slightly difference in sharpness between IrfanView & LibreOffice. See screenshot. Format -> Image -> Filters -> Sharpen does improve things a notch.

I don't see a difference between JPG/PNG as the original poster suggests.
