Description: Since updating my macBook to Monterey (12.0; 12.1) LibreOffice shows a strange behaviour. After working for a while - this can be more than half an hour or it can be 2 Minutes - the spinning waterball appears and LO hangs (it will not return to working mode). As I mainly work with Base and Draw (300-page documents) I can only refer to those modules. I wasn't able to find out what the specific task is, which leeds to the hanging as it happens all of a sudden, sometimes while just having a document open without doing anything. I tried all 7.2 versions so far, and reinstalled LO several times, making sure to delete all traces of the program before reinstalling. The behaviour is always the same. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Simply start Base or Draw and do something for a while 2. 3. Actual Results: After some time the spinning Waterball appears and LO hangs - I have to force quit - most of the data inserted into the database (embedded HSQLDB) is lost Expected Results: Stay alive Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: I expirienced the same behaviour with corelDraw (2019) after moving to bigSur - Corel simply told me the version was not compatible. By the way OpenGL is not active.
Were you running 7.2.4.1 on macOS 11 already and if yes, did you not encounter the problematic behavior? Can you rule out the hang does not happen after using some copy / paste action?
I didnˋt notice that behavior under macOS 11, but cannot rule it out. It became frequent under 12. First I noticed it while copying Text from a document converted from pdf to draw. So it could have been a copy and paste action. But I then worked with Base alone and still experienced the same behavior. So no copy and paste involved.
@Helmut : when it hangs, do you have to force kill the LO process via the Finder (or the system monitor utility) ? Do you ever get an Apple trace message ? Is there anything in the macOS system logs that might be of use (start Console.app in the Utilities folder and go through the logs searching for the keyword soffice) ?
@Helmut : if you are using Base, could you tell us which version of Java JDK you are using ?
Hello Alex, yes, you're right I have to kill LO through Finder - usually trace message is generated, which I posted once or twice to apple. When LO hangs again, I'll attach the contents to this report - 'sadly' LO didn't hang yesterday and not today so far. Yes, I installed Openjdk 17 (OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-17+35 (build 17+35)) from the https://adoptium.net/ website
Possibly a duplicate of one of these : tdf#77141 or tdf#57979 or tdf#146431
@Helmut : your description of having an ODB file open plus another one is very similar to the behaviour reported in tdf#77141, cf. comment 4 of that bug report.
The fix for bug 148435 probably solved this issue to. Please re-test with LibreOffice 7.4.5
