Description Michael 2022-01-06 00:04:23 UTC
Description:
Libre Calc does not display the typed entires in the active cell or the ledger above while I am entering the data.

The cell contents are displayed after I hit Enter and the cursor moves to another cell. But that means I am typing blindly the entire time. It used to work until late summer, but I did not change anything in the computer and do not recall changes to Libre.

I updated Libre to the latest 7.2.4.1, with no improvement. I am running MacOS 12.01, this problem occurred on earlier versions of MacOS as well. My hardware is a Mac Mini M1.

Actual Results:
I tried to type letters or numbers in the cell. None are displayed in the cell, or in the ledger above, until I hit Enter and move the cursor to another cell.

Expected Results:
I have to Enter the contents, which moves the cursor to another cell.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
It should show data as I type it. Libre Calc used to do that.

No issue here with

Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 2 Michael 2022-01-06 20:41:02 UTC
I just attempted that. (Thank you for telling me where the Safe Restart was located).

I continued to see the same error while working on a file in Safe Mode. I also tried creating a new file in Safe Mode, it still failed to display the cell data I was typing until I moved the cursor to another cell.

Do you also see it in a daily build MacOSX-x86_64@tb81-TDF https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html

Please also test changing 'Graphic output' options in Menu/Edit/Preferences/LibreOffice/View (I think it so in Mac)

I am unable to run the daily build on my Mac. Mac OS prevents unsigned software from executing.

I downloaded 7.2.5.2 for MacOS. It was easy to reproduce the problem.

I restarted 7.2.5.2 in Safe Mode, no help.

I check the Preferences on View, it only lets me choose whether I want Anti Aliasing, hardware accelartion is greyed out. (I am on a M1 Mac Mini)

All left me with a missing cell contents until I went away from the cell.

screenshot of issue

Every time, when I try to wrote something in cell, which have a margin-wrap text mode, i have a issue.
Text disappears after reaching wide of cell, and more visual artefacts appears (content of previously typed cells on lines down under) or (joining adjacent cells under typed text) - that happens all time. It dissapears when cell is completed, but in-type that much frustrate.

This seems like bug 143709

Michael, can you still see the issue in a more recent version, like 7.4.5?
Comment 12 Michael 2023-02-05 15:12:58 UTC
I just downloaded 7.4.5 This did not resolve the problem.

I still remain unable to see what I typed until I move to another spreadsheet cell.

Perhaps some high contrast and/or accessibility setting, whether in LibreOffice or in the OS itself?

What about some color theme?

Perhaps in LO Options > LibreOffice > Application Colors ? Maybe there is some color combination that results in White-on-White (or equivalent)?

After you finished introducing the cell's content, when you go back to put the focus on the same cell, do you see the content of the cell in the formula bar (e.g. formula or whatever)?
Comment 14 Michael 2023-02-07 04:35:42 UTC
As soon as I move to another spreadsheet cell, the contents become visible in the original cell. And when I highlight that original cell, the entry is also visible in the formula bar above.

I use the default black text color. I checked and did not find any Accessibility settings enabled, everything is on their default setting.

I am running Libre 7.4.5.1 on a Mac Mini running macOS Ventura 13.1

There are no non-Libre applications that have similar invisible entries. However, Libre Text has a related problem. In that, I can see what I typed, but not what I have highlighted.

Can not reproduce

Can you test in 7.5? Make sure to download the appropriate architecture (ARM/Intel)

Does it occur with english fonts?

Wow, that worked!

I am running macOS 13.2.1

I upgraded Libre to 7.5.1.2 and it was properly displaying the text as I entered it in Libre Calc.

Thank you ever so much for solving this.
