Description Tijs 2022-01-11 13:30:45 UTC
Description:
Plain text-paste from external programs into LO fails.

Problem initially reported in 2013 under bug #62196
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62196
That bug report has status RESOLVED FIXED, (2021-08-27 in >=7.1.3) given user feedback:
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62196#c140

But I can easily reproduce the problem on one of my computers (LO 7.2.5.2).
Since I'm not alone, given comment:
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62196#c141
I submit a follow up ticket to tackle it hopefully for good.

Please let me know if more info is required.
I'm happy to help getting this issue resolved.

Steps to Reproduce:
On my COMPUTER-#1
0: Start LO: libreoffice7.2 --calc --safe-mode
1: Copy random piece of text from LO
2: Paste text from #1 into LO
3: Copy random piece of text from Firefox (or any other program)
4: Paste text from #3 into LO

Actual Results:
Step #4 fails.
Text from #1 is pasted instead.

The above mentioned steps reproduce the issue every time.
The test failed 10 out of 10 tries.

Expected Results:
Text from #3 is pasted.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
Work around: restarting LO fixes issue, until reproduction steps executed again.

Problem occurred on COMPUTER-#1, details below:
-----------------------------------------------
Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Don't think it's related, but for completeness.
1) I connect to this machine via VNC.
Running tightvnc server & lxde window manager.
2) $libreoffice7.2 --calc --safe-mode
Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display ":2.0".
3) $glxinfo | grep OpenGL
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

Problem does NOT occur on COMPUTER-#2, details below:
-----------------------------------------------
Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 4.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
Comment 1 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2022-01-21 20:58:52 UTC
Not reproducible for me using ctrl+C and ctrl+V to copy and paste.

Version: 7.3.1.0.0+ / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: e25f5b89b22f68a95a4eb1c5c3e920d0033a3608
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR
Ubuntu_20.04_x86-64
Calc: threaded

Perhaps the problem is on LXDE side.

Best regards. JBF

Dear JBF,

>Not reproducible for me using ctrl+C and ctrl+V to copy and paste.

Thanks for checking the reproducibility on your side.

>Perhaps the problem is on LXDE side.

Maybe, but the strange thing is that only LO has this problem, other apps in same environment don't experience this problem. And there have been many reports of same issue even on MS-Windows systems.

Buts since reproducibility is problematic for most users, but not for me, I'll try to debug it myself. Thus cloned git repo and build LO from source successfully and problem persists.

Do you have a tip with which sources to start debugging?

Kind regards, T

Can't reproduce on Ubuntu 20.04 and GNOME 3.36.8 with:

Version: 7.5.0.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 77cd3d7ad4445740a0c6cf977992dafd8ebad8df
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Nor with:

Version: 7.2.7.2 / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 8d71d29d553c0f7dcbfa38fbfda25ee34cce99a2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Great that you will test on your own build. You can also test a currently supported version of LibreOffice and see if the issue persists: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/

Can you clarify what is the remote OS + DE?

@reporter:
I am pretty sure that the problem here is realted to this here:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=148647#c11
Any way to test whether influence of other running application is the reason for the problem?
