Description: Hello. I’ve been testing the LibreOffice (and OpenOffice before that) literally for two decades now. Every single time I gave up using it because of a bug in one single thing a word editor should be able to do in the very first place: displaying text! Drag-selecting text over multiple pages would distort it, add white lines, deform it or even delete entire lines. I have the “smooth scrolling” enabled in settings. Without that enabled, Writer is completely unusable when selecting text because of a screen jumping. For me this is a very serious bug that has been present forever and should be fixed ASAP. Take a look at my screen grab below: https://postimg.cc/qgt3JZCy Steps to Reproduce: 1. In setting enable "smooth scrolling" 2. Type a very long text, multiple pages 3. Drag select a part of this text moving through multiple pages up and down. The text gets distorted. Actual Results: Distorted text, crossed with while horizontal lines, displaced or missing lines... Expected Results: Displaying just normal text without deformations. I think, this is a very core feature a word editor should be able to do flawlessly. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Version: 7.2.5.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5 CPU threads: 32; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: default; VCL: win Locale: sl-SI (sl_SI); UI: sl-SI Calc: CL
You should be aware how things are done in OSS: do it yourself, find or pay someone fix it or just wait, sometimes days but also decades. You can do a good bug report. Did you look in thousands of other reports? Hard to imagine nobody reported in those years. There are already "smooth scroll" bugs.
