Description: Libre should be enhanced by using the Right Single Quote to indicate a missing syllable, typically found when typing reported speech. People say ’phone or ’bout or ’bye or ’night or ’kay and the missing first syllable should be indicated by the Right Single Quote (alt code 0146) in the ISO Latin set. I can only speak for UK and US English. If AutoCorrect is Replacing Single Quotes I suggest the software look back at the last typed character when a word is ended that has started with a Single Quote. If it is a (closing) single quote, do nothing. If it is not a closing single quote replace the word's initial left single quote by a right single quote. A specialized use case that does not belong in autocorrection where the AutoCorrect dialog's Localized Options Single Quotes replacement logic is suitable to vast majority of use cases. IMHO -1, and => WF
German has this elision as well. Examples are: eigne (eigene/own), ewge (ewige/eternal) and while the first example is readable without the apostrophe it would be a challenge for the second (ew'ge). Stylistic elision are usually not identified with an apostrophe (but people often wrongly add superfluous apostrophes). For other languages see [1]. For English the words because and cause come in mind where 'cause could be the colloquial form or the actual meaning. I don't see that we can cover all cases. And ultimately isn't it a question for the auto-correction? [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elision
Resolving WF now.
