Description HTK300 2022-02-09 08:52:27 UTC
Description:
When working on a Laptop with an attached second screen that extends the desktop I found that some dialogs from the Menus appear on the original (Master screen) even WRITER is in full screen on the secondary screen. Then I start to wonder where ist my search dialog, which appeared on the other screen.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. connect a secondary monitor via VGA, DVI or HDMI cable
2. setup your Windows (or macOS) to extend your desktop
3. Open LO WRITER and move the App screen over to the extended workspace (second monitor
4. maximize the app and type something
5. go to menue Edit > Find and Replace
6. The dialog opens up but on the master screen (laptop or main desktop)

Actual Results:
The dialog opens up but not on the secondary monitor, where the app has been maximized, yet it can be found on the master screen (laptop or main desktop), which is a bit confusing.

Expected Results:
the dialog box for Find and Replace is supposed to be displayed on that monitor screen and desktop, where the app is currently displayed

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
In CALC this works fine in dual monitor mode

Options being displayed on 2nd screen for Writer - Tabbed Interface

I have a similar issue when using LibreOffice in the tabbed interface also on a laptop and 2nd monitor. The options are displayed on the 2nd screen instead of being displayed on the same window. This is the case when LibreOffice is full screen on the left hand side (monitor). However when LibreOffice is full screen on the right hand monitor the menu options are displayed within the application window. Please see attached screenshot. I would expect the menu option to be displayed within the application when using both screens as this is inconsistent and cause confusion.

kind regards,

John

I suppose, that there is an underlying problem: The dialog position to parent is off (dialog doesn't open centered to main screen); same with Table of Content dialog (see bug 146562)
=> Status NEW

Tested with

Version: 7.3.0.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 0f246aa12d0eee4a0f7adcefbf7c878fc2238db3
CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win

Hope you agree, that we change bug summary. Please feel to change it back with a short reasoning, if you disagree.

Hi Dieter, David,
just installed LO 7.4.0.0 alpha.

The difference now, when I open the Find & Replace dialog from within the Edit menue it now appears in the center of the other desktop screen. Earlier in 7.3.x it appeared somewhat at the lower right corner of the other desktop screen.

Remember, I maximized WRITER on the extended desktop, there I started to Find and Replace something, but the dialog to enter my search/replace string happens to show up on the primary desktop screen means on the other Display well at least it is kind of centered horizontally and vertically.

If that is what you wanted, well okay.
I assumed it should be shown on the same screen where the WRITER app is attached/maximized to.

best,
Harry

Hi,
another idea what I figured out.

When I moved the WRITER app over to the primary screen and try to search and replace again for something, the corresponding dialog apears again where it was earlier moved to by myself (so the app can remember its position where it had been located by the user. this is probably a good solution

HTK300, thank you for retesting. You're right, that the bug is still present, but fix of bug 146562 makes it now more obvious

Actual result:
Find & Replace dialog always opens on monitor 1 (also, if LO Writer is open on monitor 2)

Expected result:
Find & Replace dialog should alsways open on the same monitor LO Writer is opened

Dear HTK300,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
