Symptoms:
I have figured out the problem. It happens if no "Character Style" is selected. If the character Style shows "None" when the Drop Cap is created the Drop Cap will be stripped out when the document is saved. However, it does seem to be retained if "WW8Drop0" or "Drop Caps" is selected as a style. (Please verify)

Solution:
1) Set Drop Caps as the default character style so that "None" is NOT the initial default.
2) Otherwise, FIX the drop caps so that it is retained IF "None" is selected.

Please test and verify. Thank you.

Sample doc that won't retain Drop Caps

I was wrong. I have a document that will not retain Drop Caps no matter what I do. I'm attaching a sample of that document here so you can test it.

Wasn't clear to me, that it is finally a docx-file. Problem has been reported in bug 109308
=> RESOLVED DUPLICATE

Feel free to change it back to UNCONFIRMED with a short reasoning, if you disagree.
