Draw:GIF; Calc: WEBP: Writer:EPUB; Impress:PDF

Well EPUB and & PDF have dedicated export options, why at it to the general Export area...

I likely missed some pre-existing bug... but well WEPB surely new..

For me the defaults are all different :)

Draw: TIF, Impress: WMF, Calc: XHTML and Writer: "Writer Indexing Export"
Comment 4 Luboš Luňák 2022-02-11 14:34:04 UTC
I did not make WebP the default for anything. Presumably the "defaults" are randomly chosen (by whatever comes first in some unsorted list, or something like that).

Same same but different... I get Writer: XML, Calc: XHTML, Impress: WMF, Draw: TIFF.

My take: Since PDF and EPUB have own menu items we could preselect a raster graphics format, PNG or WebP. Better if the last used format is remembered, which is bug 54035.
Comment 6 Heiko Tietze 2022-02-17 10:02:14 UTC
We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

My idea in comment 5 to make a raster graphic like PNG the default in all modules was supported.

But others recommend to use PDF as standard with the idea that Export As (> PDF | EPUB) is just a shortcut to the filter in Export and not listing them would make them special and different.

So we are split in what exactly the solution should be. There is probably no harm in any of the two options but the benefit of consistency.

Technically Export & Export as PDF|EPUB being the same. The existence for the dedicated entry's was for reason, I guess.
A) Probably faster to access
B) More prominent position (obvious)
C) The export settings come before the export location (pressing, save followed by configurationally settings is kind of backwards)

If is opted to make 'PDF' default those 'additional export dialogs' might be redundant. It has no benefit having 'Export as' and also setting Export pointing to the same file-format.

----
FWIW To only reason why I use Export is actually presence of PNG/JPG formats.. If there was export as PNG/JPG I wouldn't even use at File -> Export (and don't care about default

----
I defined the problem totally wrong. The default isn't a major issue, if File -> Export would open with the last used file format filter. And instead of always switching back to 'default' filter
I use File -> Export for exporting to PNG. And I have to constantly pick PNG from the drop down.
