Description santiagorecalde 2022-02-19 13:34:20 UTC
Description:
I just want to let you know that I like open source.
I used libre office but i am going back to microsoft office the reason are:

Libre office is not good looking. looks outdated
the user interface is not what most of the people is used to from windows
the fonts are not compatible
I cant write in a different language (alt 164 for example)

If libreoffice wants to be successful has to mimic Microsoft office
layout, appearance, and configuration. Otherwise people just get tired
of figuring it out instead of just using it

I am so sorry

Steps to Reproduce:
Install and open libreoffice

Actual Results:
Outdated look and feel
Difficult to use
Not compatible by default

Expected Results:
1. Nice looking, rounded edges
2. fonts that match Microsoft office by default
3. Saved in Microsoft excel by default
4. Layout similar as possible to Microsoft office
5. Ability to use alt 164 similar to Windows

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Libreoffice will be successful if mimics Microsoft office

Thanks for the feedback. There are various open bugs about the points you mention. And while I agree in large parts, this bug is not actionable due to the one issue per bug rule and it would most likely be a dupe, thus closing as invalid.

You are welcome to add yourself to the CC List of existing bugs or file new bugs if you are unable to track down the existing issues covering the things you would like to see changed.

Please don't set your own bugs to NEW as confirmation is done by QA Team or a second user reporting the same problem. Some inspiration on how to write bug reports can be easily found, here is one random article: https://www.browserstack.com/guide/how-to-write-a-bug-report

Thanks for understanding.

To be honest, I don't like most modern UI. I actually find it more difficult to use because it does not use a consistent design language, does not provide enough affordances, has weird color and contrast choices, and low information density. Microsoft Office doesn't even have a normal menu. So, for me, the LibreOffice UI is overall far better than Microsoft Office. But despite my preferences, there are changes being made all the time on this project to bring it closer to MS Office design. So, someday, it may become the perfect clone you seek.

As it is, I agree with Steve in Comment 1 that there is nothing actionable here.
