In the formula editor, Greek characters can be obtained by selecting with the mouse, or by typing their literal expression preceded by the % sign. For example, to obtain the Greek letters rho and theta, type in french %rhô and %thêta. To write a vowel ô or ê with the circumflex accent on the French keyboard, you must first type on the key with the umlaut symbol at the top and the circumflex accent at the bottom (between the P key and the key with the $ sign), then on the vowel o or e. This is the normal procedure both for text in Writer and in the formula editor. In the latest version, stable 7.2.5, the formula editor no longer recognizes accented characters: typing the circumflex key is ignored and you always get the vowel without accent, and you have to copy and paste if you have the correct spelling with accent somewhere, or you have to choose the corresponding Greek letter from the cliquodrome. On the other hand, writing accented vowels works normally for text in Writer. To reproduce, open a Writer document, write letters with circumflex accents in Writer according to the indicated procedure, it's OK. Then, Insert->Object->Formula and type %rhô in the editor: you get %rho in the editor and in the formula image. Note that everything works normally in the previous stable version 7.1.8. So, beautiful regression of version 7.2.5 Not everybody has this problem, even under Linux. - 7.3.2.0.0+ or LO 7.2.6.0.0+ with Ubuntu 20.04 ( Gnome ) has not this problem. - I have this problem with LO 7.3.0.3 with Mageia Cauldron (test of the next version 9), with "SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN="gen" libreoffice --safe-mode" or "SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN="gen" ./soffice" I have this problem. - Cinnamon with Linux Mint 19.3 x64 have this problem and with "SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN="gen" ./soffice" there is no problem the problem would be related to GTK3.
Confirming with Version: 7.2.5.2 / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 499f9727c189e6ef3471021d6132d4c694f357e5 CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 12.2.1; UI render: default; VCL: osx Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR Calc: threaded Even worse on macOS (Macbook Pro) - typing the circumflex followed by the vowel simply inserts nothing at all - both key entries are ignored.

Actually, I should qualify where I'm typing the diacritics : - in the main formula window, the diacritics are ignored completely, irrespective of the character ; - in the formula composer (bottom window), the diacritics can be entered and are displayed subsequently in the main window.
I confirm the issue on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS 64bits 3.36.8 & LO 7.3.1.3. The issue occurs also on my Mint Una ( come back later on to fulfill my specs).
No repro with Version: 7.4.0.0.alpha0+ / LibreOffice Community Build ID: ab8d141967111ca81f4607db3618bb09214e42db CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 5.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: cs-CZ (cs_CZ.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Jumbo Can you retest with dev version please? http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/ Thank you
Hello. As suggested by raal, I performed a test on LibreOfficeDev_7.4.0.0.alpha0 from april 26 with french language pack, Linux deb X64 version. Build = 67d8c245daf7c6ee33e908255f2bbd0ea8d08206 All seems OK, the circumflex accent appears when writing "%rhô" in the formula editor, and the image is the greek letter "ρ". So the problem that was still present on 7.2.x and 7.3.x seems to be solved on 7.4.0. Richard
Thanks for testing, closing the bug
It look like this bug is reintroduced but I cannot say since how long, because this is the 1st time I learn how to create a « text zone » inside a document... By the way, it is impossible to create accentuated characters using the standard keyboard sequence with LibreOffice « writer » : Version: 24.8.2.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 480(Build:1) CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR Ubuntu package version: 4:24.8.2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1~lo1 Calc: threaded Runing under linux « Ubuntu Unity (xorg) 22.04 LTS » flavor, with the LibreOffice installed from this repository : bigbob@bigbob-t480s:~$ apt-cache policy | grep libreoffice 500 https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu jammy/main i386 Packages release v=22.04,o=LP-PPA-libreoffice,a=jammy,n=jammy,l=LibreOffice Fresh,c=main,b=i386 500 https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages release v=22.04,o=LP-PPA-libreoffice,a=jammy,n=jammy,l=LibreOffice Fresh,c=main,b=amd64 bigbob@bigbob-t480s:~$ I have added a « text zone » inside a « writer » document, inside this « text zone », I am unable to use the standard keyboard sequence under linux. For example to create an « u » circumflex, under linux, I always and everywhere use the keyboard sequence : 1) hit the circumflex key. 2) hit the letter I want to accentuate, in this case the letter « u ». The result must be the accentuated letter « û » <- I currently used the sequence I described to write this one... Actually, that does nothing inside the defined « text zone », whereas everywhere else in the document it work like expected. Hope my description is well formatted to help you debug the problem...
